Maybe it was not the same show, since it took place at the „Hiroshima Prefectual Art Museum“. It was Kagura performed by „non professionals“. The actors and the musicans were really passionate and did a great job. Not a boring second and on top of...More

Although it was in Japanese, they had flyers explaining the stories in English. I really enjoyed the dancing and music. It's a must go if you're looking for more traditional entertainment.

Even though it was not a high level, professional production play, it seemed like a lot of heart was put into performances and some actors were really talented. I watch a lot of traditional opera/dance/theater when I travel, this one was one of the best!...More

I wouldn't normally go for amateur folk theatre staged purely for tourists but - as usual - the Japanese enthusiasm and generosity carries you over the cultural barriers and it was actually really good fun and quite stirring in places. If you want good photos...More

We had a great time watching two Kagura performances. The shows were dramatic, the dancing entertaining and the costumes incredibly colourful and elaborate. Tickets are on sale for 1,000 yen at the venue from 5pm and doors open at 6pm. The first show doesn't start...More

We had a blast here. Kagura performances are vibrant, expressive and loud- a far-cry from the slow pace of Noh and Kabuki. Kids were in the audience loving the costumes and showiness. ¥1000 for two 45-minute shows plus an opportunity to meet the actors and...More

I've never heard of Kagura, so, was thrilled to experience the dramatic, colorful and entertaining show! Kagura originated as a Shinto ritual as a gratitude for agricultural bounty. This folk art form has been preserved and is popular with the younger generation. The shows are...More

This place in Hiroshima does kagura shows every Wednesday, kagura being a traditional Japanese performance (also has only male actors like Noh and Kabuki) focusing on the dancing aspect. But before I start telling you about the show I went to and to better understand...More

Wednesday evenings only, a must see, enjoy, join in performance by a handful of musicians and preformers. Brilliant costumes, quite tollerable, even enjoyable percussion and flute music, great performers telling a tale readily understood by we "foreigners" though it is all Japanese. An undoubted highlight...More
