Authentic, friendly but no tofu to eat on the premises

On the basis of previous reviews and being tofu fans my husband and self tracked down this genuinely authentic tofu ‘factory’. The ladies in the factory were completely surprised to hear that we were hoping to eat tofu from them and directed us instead to the nearby Sake Brewery where a restaurant exists. We didn’t bother to follow up since our objective was to eat fresh preparations at Okage Tofuan. We were disappointed after making the journey but totally appreciated the continuing production of artisan tofu and hence 5 stars.

Artisan family run Tofu shop and factory. So yummmy!

We happened to notice this old cute shop while walking and exploring. It's not far from Hanshin Mikage Station, on the way to the Sake breweries and tours. They use the same deliciously pure spring water the famous Sake breweries use, from Rokko Mountain. Locals that know this hidden gem really love it. They told us they rarely see foreigners and don't advertise. They recently began considering making a website. A cute elderly man told us of the 60 year history of the store and factory. We sampled freshly made tofu, including fried Japanese style tofu (atsu-age). Warm and yummy. So good. It's open from early in the morning. Their signature product is "kumi tori tofu", which is soft and scooped. It is so good.

Tried the Hiro uzu tofu fried with shiitake mushrooms and carrot and ginang plus gobo
