While this zoo isnt as modern as some (like Auckland Zoo in my hometown) - it had a lot of charm with typical japanese flavour The kids will love the exhibits, and the fairground rides (highly recommend the dragon coaster!) plus the petting zoo was pretty sweet Animal wise, was amazing seeing the Panda, Polar Bear and other animals we... It's up there with being the worst zoo I've ever visited. The enclosures, if you can call them that, are way too small, concrete, no food, no enrichment and no hiding places. The monkeys were looking around for food the whole time, very obviously hungry and board. Some of the cages were rusting which isn't good for the animals. There... More

This zoo was pretty good for the location and price. There was a decent amount of people, and the displays were nice. However, it is not a "must-see"

Located about 3km away from Sannomiya. You can take the Kobe City-line bus number 92 from Sannomiya and get off right in front of the Zoo. Entrance ticket for adults costs only 600 Yen and children below 4 years can enter for free. They have a good variety of animals and don't miss out to see the giant panda! It... More

The zoo is rather small but very well laid out and with nice animal enclosure. Most of the kids favorite are there, you can see it all in 3-4 hours and it's best at Sakura season because of hundreds of cherry trees on the grounds, truly spectacular at that time and they propose night visits with great light up !... Not liking the atmosphere very much, but this zoo has all the animals you'd expect to see plus more. It has a fairly big children's section where petable animals walk around freely and there's an amusement park inside the zoo. Extra fees for the rides. Recommended for families with young children.

The zoo had an average variety of animals. One thing to keep in mind - Animals won't be as lively in summer compared to winter and fall. At the time I visited, most of the animals were sleeping (Probably due to the heat) and some of the animals were not even present in their cages. Nonetheless, the elephants were pretty... More

No real point in visiting the Zoo, it is just the average zoo with sad animals who would be better off in a place with real space. But the amusement park is real fun, with old stuff , not antique but charming, unlike the modern ones, with no lines to access them and families eating and having fun. Real cool... More

As seeing a panda in real life was on my bucket list, it seemed obvious to visit the Kobe Oji Zoo. My visit was around lunchtime and it was very hot and I guess this added to the lethargy of the animals, which made them appear sad. Indeed, I saw several animals rocking, which was upsetting. However, I am no... More
