Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Small neighborhood Onsen, simple, very clean, quiet. Mainly practiced by locals. Two baths are with brown spring water. The first at 42 degrees Celsius, the second at 44 degrees (very hot). We enjoyed tasting an Arima sparkling water on the way out.

Kin no Yu is a small place so when I did my research on Arima Onsen, many reviews said it gets overcrowded. Therefore, I decided to go after 6 pm and ta-da, at one point I was the only person in the pool! The water was hot and the room was super steamy so an hour was all I could spend there since there was nothing else to do other than soak in the pools. There are two pools, a "golden" (rusty colour) one and a clear one. It is not the newest place but it does give you the famous golden mineral rich hot spring water. If you're
looking for a quick onsen break from a whole day's travel, this is a pretty good place. You need to bring your own towel or buy one there for 200 yen(small) or 500yen(big). A small towel is good enough. Overall, I was happy with my experience there and I would go again for 520 yen. I got a coupon from the tourist centre so I got 20% off of the original price 650 yen:)

My brother and I visited here after doing Mt Rokko, and it was great. The people inside were really nice and there is enough English signage to get the general idea of how it works. Basically you walk in and take your shoes off. Then you put your shoes in the shoe locker and get the key (free). Then you pay to enter--650 yen but we had been given some coupons at the tourist information office at Sannomiya Station so I think it was only 520 for us. We'd forgotten to bring towels so we each bought one of their small towels for 200 yen apiece. They also have large towels for 500 yen apiece, but you can make do with the small ones (or better yet, bring your own). Then you go upstairs and enter sex-segregated areas. Your first stop is the changing room. You go to your assigned locker and get completely naked. Then you enter the hot spring/shower room and shower off. Then you get in the hot springs! There were 3 pools: one is clear water. I jumped in that one first but it seemed little used. The other two are brown water--this is the famous mineral water that Arima Onsen is known for. One of the 2 brown water pools is 42 degrees, which is really hot. The other is 44 degrees which is insanely hot. I only got in the 42 degree pool, and it did a number on me in a short amount of time. As I was getting out, I very nearly blacked out! But fortunately I didn't (would've been SUPER awkward passing out naked in front of a bunch of naked Japanese guys). Then you shower off again, and head back to the locker room to towel down and put your clothes back on. Head back down the stairs and retrieve your shoes, and you're done.
I can't imagine spending more than 20 or 30 minutes here, but it's very relaxing and well worth it.

It was our first onsen visit and we really enjoyed it - the place was much nicer, cleaner and friendlier than a Sento we visited recently! They are also tattoo friendly if that concerns you.

My daughter loves taking the watersand this is reputed to be the best of the accessible bathing places in Arima. We went on a weekday just after the New Year holidays.
It was busy, busy, busy. It seems a lot of people bathe here each day and the process, especially when a foreign face is seen, is akin to a production line. Put your shoes here. Buy your tickets here. No towel? Get one here. Up you go. Men straight on. Ladies to the right.
At the changing room door, the hustle stops. It is just you and the bathing ritual. Nobody tells you what to do. Nobody really looks at you. They are all so blissed out on the steam and hot water. Inside the bath area, it is almost tranquil, despit the enormous throughput.
A bit old and seedy, but we did go because it was a traditional bathing experience.
Boiled, steamed and blissed out, we returned to the real world, heated from inside and more or less glowing.
Not great for fath-daughter time. She was in the other bath. But in some ways a shared experience.

I came to the Kin no Yu Onsen around 6:30 PM and there was 2 other people besides myself in there. This isn't a fancy Onsen at all.I forgot to bring a towel but no worries, you can buy a small one for 200 Yen or a larger one for 500 Yen. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and guided me through the process of buying the admission ticket and towel via the vending machine. Once that was done, I headed to the front desk and couple of steps away and handed a locker key and off I went to the second floor. Men were straight ahead and ladies to the right. Once you are in, you loose the street clothes and head into the bathing room where shampoo and soap is provided for you to cleanse yourself first before heading into one of three pools for a soak. There are two golden springs pool, one at 42 and the other at 44, and a plain water at 42. Very relaxing and definitely worth the traditional Japanese experience. You can play for more at a fancier place but this is as traditional of a place as one can get.

We got to the gold onsen (Kin no Yu) at 9:50am and planned to stay there until 11:30am. When we entered the onsen we found there were only 3 pools there and no outdoor area and realised we'd allowed way too much time there. There was a clear pool with a bag of oranges floating in it, which was a nice temperature. The golden pools were 42 degrees and 44 degrees respectively and were way to hot to spend a significant amount of time bathing in. Five minutes in I'd had enough, but I powered on for another hour before finally throwing in the towel. I asked a guy at the front desk to let my husband know I was done.

The Kansai Thru Pass allows access to Arima Onsen, one of the region's premier onsen towns. We went to the Kin no Yu for a short dip rather than shelling out on the admittedly more expensive ryokans and hotels there by staying overnight. Kin no Yu is a short way from the train station (closer than the Gin no Yu) and the Kansai Thru Pass allows for a small discount on the entry fee. There is also a combination pass for both the Kin no Yu and Gin no Yu available.
The brownish or "golden" water is very hot and quite therapeutic for the leg muscles after all that walking. There are only three pools in total--the two of them with the golden water being hotter than the third. Check the website for opening times and days on which there are special events. Footbaths are available outside.

This is the best onsen, and by far the cheapest, the other ones are ridiculously overpriced, loved this onsen, very authentic and clean, extremely hot water in the hottest pool

Does this onsen allow tattoos? I have many leg tattoos that would be difficult to cover up

I saw a man, who is maybe Japanese, Korean or Chinese, had tattoo of 2 dragons on his chest in Kin no Yu last month. So possibly you can take the bath. But you should email to ask its bathhouse, just in case. Recently I saw TV news reported some of bathhouses take measures, that seal for hide, for tourists who have tattoo. Have a good time!
