Wow, Kobe Animal Kingdom left me with mixed impressions.
There are areas where small monkeys and birds roam free. Some areas for certain animals are pretty spacious as well. The squirrel cage, for example. But then there are animals stuck in very small containers. Animals that would naturally move around a lot Wild pigs, pumas, smaller wild cats, ... in lots of these cages, the animals can't even see the sky. The sheep in the outside area live on a dirt plane with no grass, even though these animals usually graze in fields. The sea lions only have shallow water with no place to swim...
Honestly, this park would be great with a couple of free roaming small animals and areas where social creatures have enough space. I saw plenty of kids quickly passing by the inactive and frankly, sad looking tiger, bear and wolves while spending much more time in the petting area, feeding birds and playing with the house cats and dogs.
Also, the area with nocturnal animals is a sad sight to behold as well. The owls have no space to fly, the animals live behind glass in rooms with naked walls. At the exit, there is an owl tied to a stick so it can't fly alway.
In the pictures you can see a nocturnal cage, the shallow water of the sea lions, the grass less area of the sheep, the small cage of the wild pigs and the view from the puma cage :(

I had such a great day at Animal Kingdom in Kobe! This all-weather park is based on the concept of contact with animals and flowers.
There are many different exotic species living in large open spaces. Here animals can freely roam and you can walk among them!
It's an amazing experience!🤍
The exhibition area reproduces the habitat of the animals, and you can see the lively appearance of the animals up close.
The outside park is an open pasture, with animals like sheep, camel, alpaca, kangaroos etc…
In the inside park there is a domestic section called “Contact Animals” with dogs, cats, rabbits that you can pet as much as they like.
There are many other animals and you can also feed some of them!
The cutest animals for me were the red panda, the Prairie Dog and the Ringed Teal Duck😭😍
I would love to come back soon!🥰

Loved this! Went there on a rainy there and loved the fact that everything (except for the open outdoor space) was indoors. Thoroughly enjoyed interacting and feeding the animals, which were all so lively and happy. We had a blast. Will highly recommend this place - suitable for all ages.

Really fun experience, much better than we expected. We needed something fun for our son who has been a trooper the past few days. This was really great. There are a few animals who look a bit lonely, but overall they're very well cared for and the interaction is limited and animals always have opt out spaces. Generally they're just happy and fat. Capybara are surprisingly affectionate, BTW. The most annoying part was finding the right train station. But once you're on it its easy and fast.

I can’t believe I was almost considering skipping Animal Kingdom to make time for other attractions. After beef at Kokubu, Animal Kingdom was our most memorable experience in Kobe and one of the most memorable in Japan. It seems pretty exorbitantly priced at 1800 yen each for a seemingly small zoo. However once you go inside, you realize it’s very different from a traditional zoo in the West. Here a lot of animals are just roaming around among the humans, and you can touch, pat and photograph with them. There is a section with lemurs jumping around. You can get very close to them, although exercise caution as they’re wild animals. In another section, you can pat capybaras, galapagos tortoise and even walk among anteaters, tucan birds and marmoset monkey and even a sloth. One of the best experiences here was seeing a red panda up close as it has evaded us in all the zoos we’ve ever been to, including feeding the red panda experience. They have a lot of unique animals, and at the end even a section where you can play with kangaroos. The photos posted here are just the highlight reel and there are so many other animals to watch and be enchanted by.
Overall it is an excellent place to spend middle of the day if you love animals and is a very different experience from being in yet another zoo. If there is one thing you can do in Kobe apart from eating Kobe beef (I recommend Kokubu) come here.

I went there on my own. And totally enjoy myself. The animals are well look after. They look happy and comforts in their environments. A lot of interaction with the animals. I recommend this. Check out the shows and the feeding hours. Worth it!

The zoo was diveded into different sections, but mainly all animals were inside. It was easy to see the animals and many of them were walking freely. Wonderful place for small children. The bird show was also worth while of seeing. Highly recommend. Portliner metro is good way to go, nice view to Kobe.

We were on a two week cruise of Japan and South Korea which had an overnight in Kobe. On the second day, while I did have some ideas written down for things to do, I decided to have one more look at TripAdvisor and stumbled upon Kobe Animal Kingdom. I read through some very positive reviews and took a look at our website and knew that we needed to come here.
It was a wonderful experience, and so convenient to access via transit. Animals out in the open, opportunities for direct contact with some animals, and a great atmosphere overall. Highly recommended.

For the majority of the experience you are walking among the animals! Birds, lemurs, capybara, tortoises, sloths!! Nothing between you and them! Each section is beautiful and it wasn’t too crowded on a Saturday either. Highly recommend!

I loved the bird section and the smaller animals. It was great the way they were able to move around freely and unrestrained by cages. This provided a great learning opportunity for children and they all loved the petting area and the shows that the keepers arranged. But like others who have commented on the situation of the larger animals. It was really shameful that there were so many solitary animals in too small enclosures. This is not how children should see these creatures. Many of these animals looked completely bored and pitiful. I even felt the small armadillo was mentally affected as it raced from side to side in constant motion. Definitely not normal behaviour. So even though I loved so much of this zoo, I left with mixed feelings about the whole experience.

Take subway from “Shin-Kobe”station to “Sannomiya” station, then transfer to port liner. Get off at “Kyo computer Mae” station.

if I remember correctly. There is a train from Namba to Kobe-sannomiya Station which takes about 30-40 mins. Then you change to the skyliner monorail to the kei computerMae station.

Hi, I planning to go to Kobe Animal Kingdom on 19 Oct 2017 (Thursday).
I saw the official website indicate that all Thursday close except 19 Oct 2017.
The website is in Japanese words which I don't understand.
Anyone can help me with that?
Thank You

How do you get here from Kyoto ?

You should come to Sannomiya by JR or Hankyu Line. If you take Hankyu from Kyoto Kawaramachi Station, you need to change trains at Juso. From Sannomiya take Port Liner and get off at Kei computer Mae 京コンピュータ前 station. Only a few minutes from the station.

Can I buy tickets in advance for this place, online? I can't seem to find a link for it on the English version of the website.

Hope this is still in time for you mate... you can buy tickets from train stations in Japan. It includes the rail ticket there and entrance to Animal Kingdom and it works out a little bit cheaper.
