Our family was visiting Kobe for Oshougatsu and our 13 year daughter and me took a taiko lesson for fun. Our first time doing taiko. Yuuma was our teacher and we liked him and the lesson very much. The big drums were so powerful. We finished with a 3 minute duet performance, wearing Happi coats, that was a great success. Tanoshikatta!

I went for a taiko drum lesson with my 12 year old son, my husband and a friend yesterday. We had a fantastic time. It was a great memory of our trip to Kobe. Our teacher Kaede was very patient with us and a great teacher. I recommend to others who would like something a little different.

We had the most interesting, challenging and fun lesson with Kaede. Since my brother and I had lessons before she challenged us with a lot of movement from one drum to the other. Our friend, who was having lessons for the first time, caught up quickly and thoroughly enjoyed the class. Kaede communicated in English very well. She was very professional and yet so much fun. Everyone should try this!

It was a great lesson, we had so much fun with Kaede Banda as our teacher. She was intetested in us and our visit to Japan, and also took time to teach us some basic Taiko-drum technics. I would advice anyone visiting Kobe to go there, because they take the time for you, and explain everything very well. Kaede-san is a great teacher. Thank you so much again. Brenda-san & Ad-san.

Had a great time with an hour lesson, which was my first time trying any taiko drumming (not including the arcade machines anyway!). Will go into some more of the detail but if you want a quick verdict, I would recommend this to anyone that has interest in musical instruments, japanese culture or just getting a good workout!

We started with some exercises and the technique but didn't take long to get into practicing some patterns. The noise and the feeling of hitting the drum is a real experience, it is not too loud that it will effect your ears but you can feel the drum through your whole body. You will start with the teacher doing a pattern and then you copy that pattern, the pattern will get longer and more difficult to remember so you will need to use your brain! By the end you will have put multiple patterns together into a full song and be drumming over a beat provided by the teacher.
It all feels quite natural and for me the biggest difficulty was remembering the patterns, so really hope I can give it another go so I can complete the song perfectly!
You may not think it but you will get a good workout from this so is also a good way to get some exercise while also having some fun with a new instrument.
Finally the teacher spoke perfect English and brought a huge amount of energy to the lesson as well helping when I struggled with a pattern!
Anyway, as you can tell I had a great time and would recommend this to anyone that may be in the area of Kobe and wants to have some fun while trying something new.

Thank you very much for your detailed review!! (and our first one!) We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed our class. You are right - remembering pattern is hard, and that is why it's such a great exercise for our brains too! Thank you and please come again!
