The area
Address
Neighbourhood: City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

Unique and Memorable Experience
Mar 2021 • Family
My daughter and I took the Wasanbon dried sweets class from Aya and it truly was a highlight of our time in Kyoto. She and her husband were so warm and kind and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Aya even gave us many recommendations for our time in Kyoto. I definitely recommend Sakura Experience to anyone looking for a unique and memorable experience.

A must see! Aya and her husband are wonderful hosts! Aya showed us a traditional tea ceremony in a beautiful setting. She was wonderful to talk to and even gave us suggestions for activities and shops in the area. I will definitely go again if I ever visit Kyoto again.

What a wonderful experience!
Feb 2020
Definetely worth it. This is a great opportunity for leaving behind the buzz of a Kyoto city and get immersed in a solemn experience, authentic to the core. Aya sensei and Manabu sensei provide a sensible and meaningful insight of a traditional japanese tea ceremony. Both guide you throughout the entire experience, both in the serving and making, and are always happy to answer any questions you might have. I really enjoyed the session and learned a lot. Furthermore, Aya San and Manabu San are really great people! I feel very fortunate for having met them!

Amazing tea experience
Feb 2020 • Family
Aya and her husband were very thorough during the tea ceremony. They explained the history and walked us through each step of the tea ceremony . What made the experience unique was that we were able to experience the tea ceremony in Kimonos. There were a variety of kimonos to choose from. Aya even put our hair in updos to complete the look. Aya and her husband also took some beautiful pictures of us throughout the ceremony and emailed it to us later along with recommendations of things to do in Osaka. They both were also very accommodating regarding my husband and 2 kids. Instead of sending them away they were allowed to wait for me in the other room. Aya was genuinely sweet, caring and knowledgeable about the whole experience. If your looking for a tea ceremony to experience we would def recommend this one.

A highlight of our travels in Japan
My partner and I had a wonderful experience doing the tea ceremony in kimonos. The setting felt really special and Aya and her husband were such welcoming and fun hosts. We learnt lots about Japanese traditions and culture and they were happy to answer lots of questions. We really appreciated them taking excellent photos for us during the ceremony which meant we could just enjoy it. Would highly recommend to friends as a must do in Kyoto!

Amazing experience!
I went for a tea ceremony and I was just by myself (which was good!). Aya and her husband took the time to introduce me to this amazing experience: you get to wear a kimono that you choose and Aya made my hair. This is a must do if you stop by Kyoto! #tranquility #purity Love Japan.

Origami with lots of giggles
Dec 2019 • Family
During our Japan trip I wanted to introduce my 12 year old to as much of the culture in various ways. One thing I wanted to take advantage of was learning Origami. I had done some when I was young and loved it and had a feeling he would as well. I found a class at Sakura Experience and signed us up.

During our our hour long class we had 45 minutes of paper folding and a brief introduction and explanation. Aya and Naomi were patient and kind and we had a lot of laughs as we worked our way through 4 different designs. We really enjoyed our time with them and they took several pictures for us while we were working so we could concentrate and then sent them to us later. They also gave us lots of suggestions on things we should see and do, which as first time visitors is really helpful!

We recommend checking out different activities with Sakura Experience!
