At ¥620 per way, this is one expensive ride for a 25 minutes one-way journey. Coasting along the Hozu River, you will be treated to forest river views, which could be more spectacular if my trip coincides with the autumn color of the leaves. The...More

You have to go early to purchase a ticket for the ride because it gets sold out real fast. Really comforting to ride in this antique train and getting to view the beautiful nature away from the busy cities. This attraction will be beautiful in...More

After spending many days in the big cities it is a pleasure to get out and see some beautiful scenery. Caught the train to the last stop of the Romantic train ride from Kyoto. So the train trip is down along the valley and river....More

Takes about half an hour, nice view of the mountains and river. If you do not want to take the same route for return, there are other options including boat ride and JR train.

It was fun taking the antique train - replete with wooden bench seats - with views of the river valleys. That said, if you are coming from far away, spend your time at some of the more historic and man-made attractions, as you can enjoy...More

I was there when in autumn in October. Well it was really beautiful to see colorful trees arround the area with train, worth it. You can buy 1 way or 2 way (go back again to the station). I took the 2 way but i...More

It was very small train and one way just 30 minutes ride but the ride was good enough for my young kids. Specially, landscape from top of the valley was so nice and cool enough activity for escaping from humid center of Kyoto city in...More

My friends and I initially wanted to take the hozu river boat cruise but unfortunately it was closed. We had opted to take the train since we were already in the area. If you’re in Kyoto during autumn, then the view from the train will...More

The name is deceiving because it's not really "romantic" when you're staring directly at another couple/family. Arrive early to the station to get tickets for the same day (if you don't get them online). We got there right when they were open and the tickets...More

Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best
eccentricities. Kyoto's Saga-Toriimoto Preserved

Period, where old homes have been transformed into tea
houses and eateries. Pleasure boats drift down the
riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature
lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The
area's famously tall bamboo groves, monkey park, and

I donot know if it is possible to buy online, but you can buy at the ticket counter when you arrive. The queue was not long when we were there, just need to arrive about 10-15’ before train departure.

It was certainly a beautiful ride as the train criss-crossed the river, but a pity one has to return the same way or take the expensive boat ride down river. By the way we bought tickets just before the train departed , but... More

Yes, book the 10:29 am return! Do not book the 11:29 am train. I went one-way, but this is what I saw and heard as I was getting off the train: people who were returning to Saga-Arashiyama stayed on the same train and... More
