This is a nice little museum. On paying the entry fee, you are served tea and a sweet. Then, you can look at artifacts and read about them in the English language page the receptionist gives you. Upstairs, there are beautiful textiles to look at,...More

This is a lovely Museum - the weaving studio in particular is amazing - but the beauty of the Textiles was well and truly overshadowed by being shouted at by the man on reception on my way into and out of the building. There is...More

This intimate house museum, dedicated to the labor-intensive craft of weaving Kimono and Obi silks, sits on a side street in Kyoto's residential neighborhood of Nishijin. It felt like a huge success just finding it, so when I checked my watch--3:48--and saw that the closing...More

Nishijin District
A district with a long textile heritage, ancient Kyoto
is still alive in the Nishijin District. Studded with
its weaving factories, tea houses, and onsen, the
neighborhood is charming and peaceful with a
self-possessed air. Less traveled than other parts of
the city, it is a district where you can take it at
your own pace. Visitors can explore the many weaving
and cloth houses, the free kimono shows, and the many
