The hike up can seem pretty long, but the view at the top is great, and the monkeys are fun to watch.

The monkey park was a great addition to our visit to Arashimaya - travelling with 10 and 11 year old we needed to find something to offset the cultural elements of our days. The walk up to the top winds its way up the mountain...More

It was a lot of fun to visit and feed the monkeys. It’s not everyday you get to interact with wild animals in their natural habitats so close to a major city. The facilities were safe, well maintained, and very informative. There’s a ~15 min...More

Highly recommended as it's a fun afternoon out for the family. Kyoto is a beautiful city but sometimes lacks when it comes to kid friendly activities - my girls (4yo and 7yo) aren't big fans of temples unfortunately! However, they loved this place - not...More

If you love animals that would be place to visit in Kyoto. The park located on the hill of Katsura River about 160 metres above it. Be prepared for a steep walk but your effort will be rewarded. On top of the hill you will...More

Climbed the mountain, fed the monkeys, photoed the monkeys - super attraction, just be careful though, they are wild - no trying to touch them or even stare at them.

We visited here and it was a wonderful experience. Be minded that there is a long hilly walk up to the top to visit the monkeys. You are able to buy food at the top to feed the monkeys. It was an amazing experience to...More

Very cool place situated on top of a hill. About a 20 minute hike uphill, so wear your walking shoes. Up there you are warned what to do and not to do with the monkeys. They seem very content in the area and are free...More

The official signs says it's a 20 minute hike but realistically it would take double the time if you are not very fit and/or trying to go at a more leisurely pace. So to enjoy the place you need to factor in at least 2...More

Western Kyoto
Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best
eccentricities. Kyoto's Saga-Toriimoto Preserved
Street takes visitors back in time to the Meiji
Period, where old homes have been transformed into tea
houses and eateries. Pleasure boats drift down the
riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature
lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The

I am not sure about New Year's day as it is a National Holiday. However, it is likely open on the other days weather permitting. Kyoto has become a tourist mecca so it can be quite crowded even so we loved the entire area... More
