The area
Address
Neighbourhood: City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have a fantastic time , touring the market, trying many things and having the girls as locals made a huge difference. Definitely tried things we have never tasted before. We then moved onto the cooking class which was a blast- Great fun and even though one of our group was a little resistant, he had a great time also and was surprised at how good he was !!
If you want a unique experience, this is for you - hands on as well as fun

The Sake was delicious and we all had an amazing experience. Definitely recommend.

Hands-on cooking experience with great explanations of the background and cooking techniques used. They provide drinks including a selection of sake and we had a lot of fun, we made friends with other tourists on the same course. The food was delicious and filling. Highly recommended.

I wasn't sure at first if this would be worth the money, but it really was. Particularly enjoyed the market visit before the course, which is a very worthwhile add on. We could have walked through the market ourselves, but wouldn't have got nearly as much from it.

My husband and I chose this class because we love Japanese cuisine. We did the class the first day we got to Japan and chose the Nishiki market option so we had a feel for the area and food. Not only did they take us to the market, but they were great to talk to, took some awesome photos we will treasure, and had excellent suggestions on what to try.
When we went to the class we found it was very hands on, and the end product was delicious! If you want a chance to learn Japanese cuisine close up, this is the place to go! Highly highly recommend

We discussed many things cultural customs traditions etc, in addition to learning Japanese cooking. Very meaningful time and money spent. Highly recommend it.

My friend and wanted to do a hands-on Japanese cooking class and Daidocoro certainly provides this. Satsuki and Shinji are friendly, accommodating and great teachers. As they have quite fluent English they were able to explain some technical nutritional information and cooking tips, making the class very informative for both novices and more experienced cooks in the class. The dishes shown can be easily replicated in a home kitchen, as they are homely dishes rather than 'haute cuisine'. You receive the recipes via email after the class. The venue is spacious, bright and airy making it a lovely environment to cook in and in an excellent location in the Kyoto commercial district. Definitely recommend Daidocoro... thank you Satsuki and Shinji!
