Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is a hidden gem and a nice refresh from all the similar-like temple grounds in Kyoto. The biggest surprise is the towering Roman-inspired aqueduct in the middle of the temple grounds and you can see free of charge. It's quiet and peaceful here with moss and maple trees all around.

We tried climbing to the top of the aqueduct, but construction hoarding blocked the path up. Maybe next time!

Nanzen-ji temple is way Zen and a must-see in Kyoto, near the Philosopher's Walk and with an absolutely gorgeous large garden and classic gate. While you are here, be sure to visit the aqueduct built in the Roman style during the Meji Era. At the top of the walkway you can see water flowing from Lake Biwa into Kyoto.

Nanzenji Temple is the temple I chose at the end of the Philosopher's Path route.

Even though Nanzenji is not as popular as other temples in Kyoto but it's absolutely a great temple to explore, and not often visited by foreign tourists. Some people call Nanzenji Kyoto's secret treasure

Entering the large temple area, it will find the giant Sanmon gate which is one of the three giant temple gates in Japan, beautiful Japanese garden Hojo park and old water channel that drains water from the Biwako Sosui canal which is old.

Access by bus no 5 or walking from Philoshoper Path in the end Route.

Being in the water business was great to see an aqueduct still working in Kyoto. The garden located up the stairs behind the structure was wonderful and well worth the extra yen to enter!

This is an absolutely STUNNING aqueduct, dating back to the 19th century.
The aqueduct is located within the boundaries of the beautiful Nanzen-ji temple and provides countless photo-ops.

The old aqueduct remained at site next to Nanzenji and was popular among visitors. It was nice to take photos around and sometimes you need to wait for a while if you really want to make a good post there.

This aquaduct is over one hundred years old, made of brick, and worth making your way to see if you are visiting Nanzenji Temple. When I was there, some people were using the arches in the supports for a portrait photoshoot. You can walk up the stairs and along a path the runs parallel to it for a way, though I didn't go far.

This beautiful and historic temple can be reached from the nearest subway station, Keage Station on the Tozai Line (about 5 minutes walk) or alternatively you can take a bus from Kyoto Station. On the right side of the temple, you can see a a large brick aqueduct that passes through the temple grounds.

Quiet and very tranquil place to walk around and tour...the water way is reminiscent to the Aqueduct in Rome.
