This is about the weirdest and oddest memorial in Kyoto. Just happened to pass by this memorial on our walk to the National Museum. Had to look up the back ground of Mimizuka. This is a tribute to the cruelty of war going back to the 16th century. This attributes to the invasion of Korea by the Japanese and taking nose parts from those killed during the war as well as other body parts and includes Ming Chinese soldiers body parts. So this is all interred in this Mimizuka mound. Apparently Korean citizens come by busload to pray at this mound. Thankfully, the locals turn a blind eye to this atrocious memorial. Once again, this is all history but I guess it is no different than visiting the Killing Fields in Cambodia. Certainly not a memorial you would put on a must see list.

Small with a gruesome history
Dec 2014
The history of this place is sad and its really just a small shrine. Inside it are pickled noses from the Korean invasion. I stumbled on this as I was walking around Kyoto as there were a number of Korean tourists (stepping out of a tourist bus) who were taking photos of this but I wouldn't go here just to see this.
