While a difficult thing to get into for non-Japanese speakers, I feel the experience here was excellent. Both the play we watched and the food we ate in the restaurant under the building. I'm in the midst of learning Japanese so I wasn't entirely lost...More

Japanese Kimono was so beautiful! We’re really amazed their works. Theaters’s rooftop looks like historical temples.すてきとおもいます。人々の着物が美しく見えてすばらしかったでしょう。かぞくも家の屋根のお寺のようにすてきでよろこんだことです

First off, don't be like us and go in shorts and shirts. This place is a nice theater and women were attending in their kimonos, so be sure to dress up! Kabuki has its value. We took our Japanese friend who had never been to...More

The Shochikuza Theatre is the place if you want to see Kabuki. It is located in in the Dotonbori district The theatre itself is built in a western, Neo-Renaissance style first opened in 1923 and was modelled after the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan, Italy.

I saw the Ameratsu performance by the Kodo group at this theatre. It was the most hypnotic experience I have had. I had goosebumps throughout the visual and auditory spectacle. The theater itself has a traditional design and so it is a little squeezy but...More

My rating of 4/5 is only because the Osaka Shochiku-za--unlike the Tokyo kabuki-za--sadly has earphone guides available only in Japanese. The kabuki website states that an English program book is available for 300 yen at the information counter, but for the July 2014 program at...More

We went to watch a theatre performance here. There's three kinda tickets available. Short (about 30min), medium (about 60-90min) and long (way over 2 hours). In this very charming theatre an all-male cast performs traditional Kabuki Theatre. The tone of the voices are a bit...More
