Loves this place, it was a last minute decision to go and I am glad I did. The vermilion bridge looked beautiful, more so than in pictures I had seen before. There were lots of locals praying and paying their respects. It is about two minutes walk from the station.

I was lucky enough to have accommodation at the back entrance to the Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine. I could walk through every day on the way to the station. It is a beautiful functioning Shinto Shrine and gardens with the signature bridge. Japanese parents bring their three year old sons and daughters here dressed in tiny kimono for special thanks giving... More

I went there in two festivals (Moon Festival in September and another one in July). Loved the local atmosphere. Watched many traditional Japanese shows on the bridge. One of my favourite shrines in Japan.

It's very interesting to find something of their historical culture in the middle of the city. The shrine was very quiet and peaceful and is architectural beautiful.

No harm visiting if you are around the corner. It is free admission anyway. See the beautiful vermillion bridge, which is called "Taiko bashi" or drum bridge.

Sumiyoshi taisha shrine is an ancient, beautiful shrine not far from central of Osaka. Can easy go there with local train.

The main reason you should visit this shrine is for its very beautiful vermillion arch-shaped bridge over a stream or small river (and its reflection below the water!) between the entrance-side grounds and the inner area on the other side where there are a number of temple buildings; and yes just as at the other two Taisha shrines that I... It was the first shrine I visited when I went to Japan, so it was definitely interesting. That said, in comparison with the numerous shrines I then went on to visit in the following days in both Osaka and Kyoto, I would say Sumiyoshi-taisha is average. It was a lot quieter than many other shrines I visited, and if you... More

In the middle of the city was this oasis of nature an Shinto Shrine. Our guide brought us here and gave us a complete explanation of Shinto beliefs and we walked the quiet serene grounds and watched the Japanese come to pay their respects and one family that brought a new born to offer thanks. It was a great experience... More

This shrine is not on the main tourist trail so is better for that. It is much more quiet and seemed mainly for locals. Different construction and roof style from those we had seen elsewhere including Kyoto. A peaceful area to visit in a busy City.
