- NanaMariaCPerth, Australia96 contributionsButterfly EnjoymentThe park was a little run down, but oh so worth it. I could have spent hours there (I love butterflies). There was a lot of butterflies to see of many colours and sizes. A very enjoyable and relaxing place to visit. It was hard to tear ourselves away.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 June 2024
- Kenta YMulhouse, France13 contributionsGreat experience !Surprising place, lots of butterflies and some other animals (turtles & fishes). I think it is better to come early in the morning since it’s not that hot and you will see all the butterflies eating their breakfast. Love the vivarium inside as well ! Clearly worth of your money and if not, it is going for the maintenance of the park which is a good thing. Expect 1h minimum visitVisited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 August 2024
- Matthew JWarrington, United Kingdom400 contributionsA Bit DullThis is an OK butterfly park but it's really not worth any more than an hour of your time. Whilst there are some nice butterflies there that you can see, I found the park to be quite small with not an awful lot to see. It's the sort of place that gets a bit dull after 30 or so minutes, so if you're looking for something to do whilst in Kuala Lumpur, I'd only recommend stopping by if you're in the area. Otherwise, there are plenty of more engaging things to do in the city besides this butterfly park.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 August 2024

We started our day with visiting the Butterfly Park after reading recommendations that the butterflies are more active early in the morning - and we certainly weren't disappointed! There were hundreds of butterflies flying around us as we explored the beautifully landscaped gardens. We found the most butterflies to be up the stairs to the right as you entered the gardens, at the highest point of the park.
We loved exploring the beautifully landscaped areas, discovering waterfalls, water features and viewing points, wandering amongst colourful flowers, exotic plants, ferns and greenery. It was so peaceful, several times we took a seat for a few minutes just to soak it all in...
The outdoor area then leads to an indoor exhibition with aircon, which is full of preserved insects from all over the world. This was surprisingly interesting and there were lots of unusual live bugs to see too - the giant millipedes, beetles and other creepy crawlies were very interesting to see!
Recommended to visit first thing in the morning when the butterflies are more active and feeding. Tickets are 25MYR for tourists (under £5) each, cash only. Easily spend 1 hour here. 10 minutes walk to Petronas Botanical Gardens, approx 15 minutes to bird park.

A very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. Advisable to bring water. It is very hot in the outdoors area, then there's a small indoo museum which is not bad.. We combined it with a delicious lunch Restoran Rebung Chef Ismail followed by a visit in the afternoon to the national Mosque, it made for a very pleasant day out.

Kl's butterfly park was an unexpected delight. It was inexpensive to enter but as soon as you do, you step into an incredible range of butterflies flying around a beautifully landscaped area of waterfall, flowers and bushes. Although there is no cafe at butterfly park, we had a very enjoyable hour there and also enjoyed looking at the museum which is attached to the park. This contains a lot of information about butterflies, caterpillars, millipedes, beetles and many other creepy crawlies. It also has a terrifying display of live scorpions enough to make anybody feel nervous when they get into bed at night! Altogether this was a good visit and well worthwhile seeing.

The park cost 20 MYR each for adult entry (make sure you bring cash as I don't recall being able to pay with card), and the park has an outdoor area full of tropical plants and mini waterfalls for the butterflies to enjoy and fly around freely. It also has fish tanks which are cool. The outdoor area does get very hot and humid, so make sure you have lots of water/buy some there.
The route around the outdoor area then leads to an indoor exhibition (with great aircon) which is full of preserved insects from all over the world. They also have some small enclosures so you can see what live scorpions, beetles and spiders are up too! I liked that they had lots of information about the different insects.
At the exit there is a gift shop and some tables and chairs to buy drinks/ice creams which are much needed in the heat.
I would recommend staying around 1-2 hours. The butterfly park is close to other attractions such as the Islamic art museum, planetarium, bird park, botanical garden and the national Mosque, so you can visit those very easily from the butterfly park.
Overall, it's a nice place to go to see butterflies flying around and some land on you too! It's reasonably priced and suitable for all ages to enjoy. I would recommend visiting! 🦋

You will feel you’re in a truly magical place when you see all of the types of butterflies living at the gardens: blue, green, yellow, purple. They are flitting everywhere, so you’ll have many opportunities to take show-off quality pictures. The butterfly gardens would have been better if the plants were permanent and planted in the ground, not in pots which gives the feel of a plant nursery- yet you can work around the pots to take some lovely flower pics as well. While small, you’ll have a memorable experience. You’ll have a tranquil area for repose away from the bustling city. Don’t miss the gift shop at the end if you enjoy seeing scientific specimens. There are many framed and labeled butterfly specimen pictures with a range of prices and sizes to accommodate a variety of budgets.

My Dad and I visited at the end of September. It was RM25 each to enter. We went first thing in the morning when the butterflies are most visible, the air is cooler, and we had the park to ourselves for much of the visit.
There were lots of butterflies 😀 It’s worth just standing in one spot for a while, giving them a chance to land nearby so you can look at them. We found it difficult to get photos, as the butterflies flit off when you’re trying to get the shot 🤣
The park itself is small but has a dense, lush rain forest feel to it. There are a number of intertwining pathways (with steps and slopes) through the greenery, with various fountains, ponds and butterfly lookout points. There’s also a few aquarium/terrarium but these were badly in need of repair and maintenance. It was rather sad to see the catfish, Gar and other water creatures in their current accommodations and in fact the park would be better without these few tanks altogether.
Also, beware if spiders webs across the pathways. We had to clear a few as we walked about, so as not to get a face full of web.
To exit the park you have to go through the Education Room. Be warned that this is filled with wall to wall giant spiders, bugs and insects - dead and in frames but still creepy - plus tanks with live scorpions, frogs, millipedes, etc. There ought to be a warning at the door, and an alternative exit for those who want to avoid the creepy crawlies.
You can spend as little or as much time as you like here. Little binoculars or even a magnifying glass might have enhanced the experience, but we were happy to just hang out with the butterflies.
We went from here to KL Bird Park which is only 20 mins walk away, but the ‘resident’ taxi driver (who hangs out near the ticket counter) drove us there for RM10 👍

Butterfly park is way overpriced at 25 ringgit (10 USD): the park is tiny and rundown, and there are not that many butterflies flying about. I expected so much more from some of the pictures posted online but was utterly disappointed.
I am not sure what the overpriced entry fee is used for, but this park needs a renovation. In its current state it should be free.

went twice with my daughter. she enjoyed it. overall the area is small but it is well designed and utilized. aside from the butterflies, they also have exhibits of other insects. it is a nice breather within the city and the price is reasonable.

Another world class attraction near KL Bird Park and Perdana Botanical Gardens. Their claim to fame is that it's the largest butterfly garden in the world and I have no reason to disagree because it is definitely vast, beautiful and well organised. It's been documented by Discovery Channel and I think it deserves all the praise that it gets.
There are many different sections inside for live insects, beetles as well as a museum, pond with Japanese koi fish and freshwater turtles. As far as the star of the show butterflies are concerned, there are thousands of them and these little lovely creature of nature are roaming around freely greeting/sitting on visitors without any care in the world.
Another reason to love this beautiful country Malaysia.

Ticket was RM13 for a Malaysian adult. Staff were friendly. We were there at 9am plus, first visitors. There were a lot of butterflies, especially Raja Brooke & Birdwing butterflies. So happy to chase after them just to get a clearer photo of them. It was nice to just sit at one of the higher canopy & enjoy having butterflies flocking all around you. We believe if the sun is brighter, there will be even more butterflies. Recommended to bring kids here, fun learning opportunity. The indoor gallery might be outdated, but the main is to see live butterflies in the garden flying freely, it really does have loads of beautiful butterflies, so I would recommend this place for that one strong reason. Remember to not go on a rainy day because the garden is outdoors, you and the butterflies will be wet & lazy.

Hi,
How long it took to complete the visit in the butterfly park? is it worth visiting? how to travel from KL Sentral?
thanks
Written 4 January 2017
You can walk through it in 5 mins or 1 hr. Most of the butterflies were up high. Be prepared to see some dead ones also. We walked from our accomodation at Pacific Express Hotel Central Market KL. It took us about half an hr. You can also get there if you use jump on jump off bus. There are also three different free bus routes around KL that were fantastic.
