Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The flow of the Klang river near Jamek mosque has improved a lot. Still even here it is a muddy river and not much of a sight. Perhaps it would look more beautiful if the banks of the Klang would be greener and not just concrete reinforcements. Further down near the Pos Besar the situation has worsened since I last saw it end of the 1980s. More garbage, ugly shores, it looks more like a big open sewer.
By Asian standards the Klang river is just a short river 120 km (75miles) long, but important to drain a large area of superfluous water. I understand the authorities have privatized maintenance of the river. Concessions were given to three companies for a 30-year period! That is a very long period. To date objectives of water cleanliness have not been achieved.

Thanks to the River of Life Project initiated and implemented by authorities, rows of water sprays are installed along the river near Masjid Jamek. During a humid daytime in the morning, the sprays create a mist out of the river below and covers the heaps of rubbish floating on the river travelling downstream. Encouraged to use your five senses, visitors may smell the river from the mists of air inhaled. No two rivers smell the same. Carcasses of animals such as rats and cats can be found on the riverside being sprayed by water. What an ingenious way of dealing with the problems of the dirty river! At night, blueish lights illuminate the sprayed water but I felt it disrespects the rich, valuable and holy context of the Masjid Jamek mosque itself. Nevertheless, the newly renovated pedestrian walkways are bridges are excellent as they increase pedestrian walkability.

Kuala Lumpur means the muddy confluence of two rivers; the Klang and the Gombak. The river is an eyesore; ugly and dirty and its banks are covered in grafitti. It could all be so much better and it will be as the City is beautifying the area but how long it will take is anyone's guess.

Lot of garbages were thrown into this rivers created an very unpleasant scene and smell even from a distance, I sincerely hope that Majlis Bandaraya Klang will take action to solve this issue serious and restore back the Royal city of Klang.

Perhaps we came here on a special day, but we did not see or smell anything as described in other reviews I read. Our local guide told us that this was the birth place of Kuala Lumpur, which means the coming together of two muddy rivers, the Klang and Gombak. We could see at a distance the Jamek Mosque and at the confluence of the rivers the big letters spelling our Kuala Lumpur. What was pretty cool was seeing the misty fog being sprayed along the river banks to create a mysterious "London Fog" effect.
BOTTOM LINE: I agree with other reviewers that even with the improvements that we saw, this off the beaten path spot is not really worth a visit all by itself. Certainly if you are visiting Independence Merdeka Square, The Textile Museum, Victoria's Fountain or the Sultan Abdul Samad Palace Building, you can add this list for a quick visit. All of these are located within a block of each other. Loved the misting fog spray in the rivers. Good place for a quick photo or selfie. MY RATING: 6/10.

The Klang River starts its life at the Klang Gates Dam and eventually empties into the Straits of Malacca in Klang. Along its route it is joined by tributaries and meets the Gombak River where Kuala Lumpur stands. At present there is a rehabilitation and beautification project called "The River of Life" where the water quality of the rivers are transformed and improved. Awareness must be instilled for the river to be viewed not as a polluted garbage dispensing unit but as a thing of beauty created by Mother Nature supporting a marine ecosystem. It will take a while but we seem to be going in the correct direction.

i've been here long time ago, and back then i think this river has no different with the city river in my country. it's big, smelly and gross. but now i guess they change alot. the river now seems clean and they installed the water spray. the area ourd this river delta is also being renovated. now they has convenient pedestrian way connected the back of sultan building an mesjid jamek. i took alot of picture since mesjid jamek is now really looks good and i also got menara KL as a background.
i have to say kudos to the city goverment for renovating this area.

Not somewhere to visit. This is a muddy and occasionally torrential body of filthy polluted water that carries rubbish and debris through the city. In time it will no doubt be cleaned up to reflect the amazing city it serves. For now at least it is no more than a sad glimpse from a train window.
