This is a old mosque in Male.

There is a board outside the mosque saying that non Muslims should take permission before entering the mosque.

The Old Friday Mosque dates back to some 400 years and has an architecture inspired by Buddhist monasteries and worship places. You will have to take your shoes off before entering. It is very dark from the inside, lit only by some energy saving bulbs. No windows or openings for natural light. Very depressing atmosphere inside.

The first time I went to the Maldives I went only to the resort and completely ignored Male itself. Ever since I had felt guilty about this because after all when you go to a country and visit only the resort you are in a controlled environment and you miss the culture. So this last time I stopped by Male.... More

It was a very cool thing to see as the whole mosque is build from just corals, we were able to see inside just from the doors as a non Muslim person cant go in. But it was a really nice thing to see. On the side there is a huge commentary that is very cool looking with the tombstones... More

This is a mosque that was made out of pure coral, I was taken on a personal tour of the city and stopped by this place. It's truly amazing that they were able to carve this building literally out of coral.

Interesting heritage. Only mosque in the world made by coral bricks (i think) must see if you like old buildings. Still under renovation but muslims can still pray inside

A must see for tourists, because the mosque has all the interiors and preserves carvings of the earliest days of Maldivian history.

เข้ามาชม Old Friday Mosque หรือมัสยิดแรกสุดในประเทศ Maldives มีอายุกว่า 400 ปี ทุกอย่างในนี้ยังเป็นของเดิม เก่าแก่มากๆ ออกมาชมด้านนอก มัสยิดแห่งนี้สร้างโดยใช้หินปะการังในการก่อสร้าง และตอนนี้ก็ยังคงปิดให้เข้าไปประกอบศาสนกิจได้อยู่ ข้างๆจะมีหลุมศพของ Ibrahim Nasir (ประธานาธิบดีคนที่ 2 แห่งสาธารณรัฐ Maldives ) ที่เป็นผู้พัฒนาประเทศ Maldives ในหลายๆด้าน เรื่องเด่นๆก็คือสร้างสนามบิน Male International Airport หรือชื่อจริงๆ Ibrahim Nasir International Airport นั่นเอง ** For More Photo you can look in Facebook “Vanapong Peudpaichit” ** ** สำหรับข้อมูลเพิ่มเติมมาดูได้ที่ Facebook “Vanapong Peudpaichit” **

There is not much to see in Male. If you are there it is worthed to visit this Old Heritage mosque. Located at the city center and walking distance from Male ferry terminal, The mosque is not big, it is original as it was built.
