This musuem, whose construction was funded by China, depicts the history, culture and marine flora/fauna of the Maldives. Thanks to the air-conditioning, it is a nice place to spend on a hot afternoon or rainy day. Entrance fee is 100 MVR and there's an additional 10 MVR for taking photos. There are two floors. On the ground floor, there are... More

Not much information provided woth regards to ancient times, Buddhist Kingdom of Maldives which is the foundational importance to the history this country. Also limited information on history of the Hinduism cultural influence originated from the neighbouring countries and about on European colonialism. We spent more than an hour to tour the entire museum. If time permits, would recommend this... More

I learned a great deal about the history of the archipelago on my afternoon's visit to the National Museum. My guide was a distinguished older Maldivian lady who was caring and interesting, displaying a true internationalist outlook in the process. She did such a great job fleshing out the bare bones of the written descriptions on the labelling of the... More

If you want to know the history of Maldives visit this place. It is very neat and clean place. People are so nice and eager to tell you about the things. You have to take ticket to take photographs inside. Experienced very interesting exhibition of technical and fossils.A must visit for museum lovers.

One of the very few places to see in Male. A well kept museum. 2 floors, mostly covering handicrafts of that region, obviously many sea shells and some history of the past - Kings who ruled, artifacts related tot hem etc. There was a police pavilion, an individual there explained to us almost everything that was on display - a... The exhibits are mainly collections from the palace but the display certainly needs more work. Not much is written to describe the history of exhibits. The museum is 2 storey but not much to see and looks sparse and layout is underwhelming. Foreigners pay 100 Maldivian Rupees for entry, so if time does not permit, you can definitely skip this.

The exhibits and timelines covered are underwhelming and hopefully in time as more resources are able to be devoted to the museum a better array of information, culture and history can be gathered for display.
