It was destroyed twice by fire when it was built by bamboo and wood. Ultimately it reopened in 1607 made with stone. Since then it has survived many eartquakes and Battle of Manila in 1945. it is a World Heritage Site by Unesco. A lot of weddings and other ceremonies take place here nowdays. We had previously visited the more well known Manila Cathedral and we liked this church better. It was more interesting inside with more side altars to visit. We even lit a candle in honor of our dearly departed daughter.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 August 2024

One of the most beautiful churches i have been. My friend's wedding was also held here last August 2019. Despite the heavy rain during the wedding ceremony, surroundings are safe and secured especially the parked cars outside the vicinity. Has a nice lobby for guest and a little reception area. The only thing that I can suggest to further improve accessibility and convenience is to put additional cemented flooring on parkings because of the mud and dirt from heavy rains. Nonetheless, experience was astounding.
Will definitely get a booking for our wedding this 2022.

We attended a good friends' wedding today, 12 Nov. 2023.
So pissed bec. it's so hot inside AND the sound system is lousy.
My friend said you have to pay for everything. Even to open the main door, that's P3k! On top of the church rental.
To take pictures in the garden, you have to pay, too. 🤬
Sorry, but the priests running this church is LOUSY! MONEY HUNGRY
No wonder people are converting to other religions

Closely associated with the Augustinian presence in the Philippines, this church is one of the oldest churches in the country founded in the 16th century. It has an impressive structure, with amazing frescoes on the ceiling, very rich religious refurbishment, beautiful antique statues of saints, etc. Not to miss is the main altar, the pulpit, the choir loft, and the room on the left of the main altar where the tomb containing the mortal remains of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi (founder of the city of Manila in 1571) is found. With all its cultural wealth to offer and rich history, it is not surprising that this church, dedicated to Saint Paul and not really to Saint Augustine, has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site. It's definitely worth-visiting!

The church and accompanying museums on the upper floor are important icons of Filipino history. The columbarium contains the remains of many important historical figures. The Botany exhibits are particularly interesting in their importance in Botany.

San Agustin is the sole survivor of the Battle of Manila at the end of WWII, during which the rest of Intramuros was leveled. It's a beautiful old church that is constantly being restored. There is a lot to see here, so plan for a few hours. It's more than just a church, there's a cloister, and a museum, and you can pretty much go all over the place. I spent the better part of a morning here. It always feels good to be transported back in time.

I visited this church on a sightseeing trip with a business partner. Admission to this church is free, but please note that it is sometimes closed without notice. San Agustin Church is the oldest church in the Philippines, built in 1571. This stone church, influenced by European Baroque architecture, is said to be in the Philippine Baroque style and has been registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The interior of the church is also spectacular. When the church is closed, you can go to the second floor from the attached museum and see inside. This is one place you should definitely visit if you come to Intramuros.

Manila's San Agustin Church and Convent are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The church is a beautiful example of Spanish baroque, profusely decorated with works of art and the visit is free. The convent is now a museum that explains the evangelization of the Philippines, carried out by the Augustinian friars, who also did great scientific and linguistic works, writing treatises on botany or grammars of indigenous languages.

Only in the exhibit rooms (which are definitely worth seeing) but not in the church itself-which is common for a church of this age.

I have ask again, now with the recent attack at Manila world resort, is it advisable to cancel my trip? What is the condition like in Manila now?
Written 2 June 2017
Don;t cancel your trip . The population of the Philippines is over 100 million . Most people there are kind , genuine , funny and have great attitudes . The odd problem that does occur is quickly under control . The place has to many positive things to miss out on ........... The Island or Mindanao has a some internal issues that do not affect the other islands . The story is too long to explain in one answer . Brent ( filipiniowondertravel)

Hello everyone. With the recent clashes in Mindanao, is it advisable to cancel my trip to Manila next week? What is the condition like in Manil now? Thanks a lot

While the battlefield is intensified in the south, areas in Luzon like Manila, Baguio or further north to Vigan are still peaceful and you hardly heard any conflict in these areas.

I want my marriage to be held at this church base on the good reviews. Unfortunately I can't find any contact details such as email address and telephone number.

I would suggest going personally to this beautiful and stunning location . To seek permission , i understand there is a waiting list for this gorgeous site . Many natural and unique attractions in the Philippines still do not have and " on -line " presence or good contact information . We worth you time to make the trip . Brent ( filipinowondertravel )
