Lots of choices of bars and cheap eats. Robinson's Mall is good for what you need to shop. Lots of construction on the streets so makes walking around difficult.

Having grown up here before moving out, I have seen Malate's ups and downs. From being a prime residential area, to becoming host to seedy nightclubs, to becoming a trendy restaurant area and to its current status. Malate still has its bohemian atmosphere but it is starting to rot. Years of neglect has led to it decline. Tsk,tsk

Strangely there is a large Arabic community in the area as well as Korean and Chinese. Plenty of lady of the night bars in one area... More

Check in at a cozy hotel nearby seeing expensive people, but when you walk around the streets, you'll see the less-fortunates who live along the streets or make shift house slash pedicab. Don't try to take pedicab if you are not from here. They will ask triple fair. Take a jeep or walk instead.

I stayed in this district so had many walks in the neighbourhood. A place where you will be confronted with the real life and the big difference between being rich or being poor. Nice hotels, shoppingmalls where rich people can buy what they want or like. Bit further you will see people laying on the Streets, dirty and begging for... More
