About
Patara Beach is one of Turkiye’s largest beaches and a naturally protected area. Here, you can admire the breathtaking backdrop of Lycia’s towering limestone peaks and honey-yellow sand dunes. The dunes are great for sunset-watching and have also made cameos in many Turkish films. Other popular activities here include rafting, horseback riding and canoeing on the Dalaman River. Patara Beach is also the spawning area of the endangered loggerhead turtles—you might see them hatch if you're lucky.
Consider pairing your visit to the beach with a trip to Patara’s ancient city and witness the fascinating ruins there too. – Tripadvisor

There were too many stray dogs here. Some of the 600- 700 Lira that a couple has to pay to enter should be spent on cleaning up the rubbish.

A really worthwhile visit. We had a long debate whether to go for the ruins and beach or just the beach. We were told it was cheap just to go to the beach but once we arrived at the entry kiosk we told otherwise. It would be 1000tl (£30 approx) for a 5day pass - no other option!! Surely this cant be right???
We decided to go for the whole experience. It cost 340tl each (a little over £10 in October '23) and was worth it. We spent 4 hours wandering the ruined city and trying to piece it all together. Since we entered from the kiosk rather than the car park, we did not see the diarama until the end. Then it all made sense and we could visualise the ruins as a city with harbour.
The downside of it all is that many parts of the ruined city are so overgrown as to be only partially visible or inaccessible. The signing and information boards leave a lot to be desired which meant we had to play it all by ear and guess our way around. The main features, as with most ruins, are the amphitheatre and the Assembly arena (this is very well reconstructed).
We followed this with some time on the Patara Beach. An extensive and beautiful sandy beach which we did not have time to explore properly. The sea does not shelve too steeply so making it accessible to all.

340 lira per person to go to a big beach covered in cigarette butts. The ruins are largely overgrown, with farm livestock grazing amongst them. Quite picturesque if you like that sort of thing but obviously the authority taking the money isn't that interested in doing anything with them. The rebuilt assembly building sticks out like the proverbial on a snooker table.

Long stretch of sandy beach with loads of littler that nobody cleans or takes there rubbish with them
And you pay £10.00 a day or £30.00 for 10 entries but beware they only last 10 days if you don’t go within
Those days you are not aloud in I think it’s a bit of a con, and if you need sun beds add a lot more lira.
Sea is nice and warm but sometimes can get very rough, also beware that when there is a offshore wind
The bitting fly bite, not a very nice experience only way to stop them is a 95 deet mosquito repellent.
If you want to see the ancient ruins it costs a lot more. Not for me disappointed.

Patara beach is a joy. Sand and warm water. The views are beautiful. I had read before that the food was not great, I confirm. There is an area where you need to pay for loungers and umbrellas but locals who brought their own had plenty of space to settle on the sand. We had access to the ruins, worth visiting! I like a bit of history.

OMG how this has changed. I don’t mind paying the multi pass price to get in, but if you are travelling there, please ensure you arrive early. By midday the traffic is queuing back towards the village of Gelemis [Patara] and then to get a car park space.
The beach which is allegedly one of the best in the World is a protected area due to the fact that turtles come ashore to lay eggs, has deteriorated over the past couple of years.
What we have noticed is that in recent years the beach is a mixture of the fine white sands, which it has always been famous for and now discarded cigarette butts in their thousands. Clearly not the turtles before laying their eggs and returning to the water at night!
Locals blame the native Turkish tourists who appear to discard them with abandon and the fact that the Kas council who are responsible for what should be a great tourist experience, appear to have removed all the terracotta pots that used to be on the beach for the use of the many smokers.
It clearly cannot be good for the turtles.
What was a vibrant beach cafe with eager, waiting staff has now become a dreary, characterless, self service facility. You pay the cashier, who gives you a receipt and sends another ticket through to the three guys standing at the bar, who put the drinks in front of you. You have to ask for glasses if you need one. They don’t sell crisps or other like snacks and if you want an ice cream you are now limited to gelatos as they don’t sell anything resembling a Magnum, Twister or Corneto..
On top of that you will consume your drink and food alongside smokers [including staff]. Every table comes with an ashtray, which is useful when the beach is full.
The tables do have free napkins which are useful if you need the outside toilet, due to the fact that a woman sits there expecting money in exchange for a few sheets of loo roll [kitchen roll]. She clearly is not there to keep these sanitary, so one word of advice about using them if you can is “don’t.
Sun beds and umbrellas are 100TL each so each reasonable at £3 for the day. That is just about all that is good about it along with hopefully protecting an endangered species; as long as they don’t develop a 40 a day habit themselves.

Very disappointed.
We paid 200 Turkish lira EACH today to pass through the barrier. We only discovered later we could have paid less by just paying for beach access but there was no sign or explanation. (Access to the ancient ruins is through the same barrier).
Once on the beach we paid a further 250 Turkish lira for 2 sun beds and a brolly. These had to be the most uncomfortable sun beds ever.
Surrounded by screaming babies and loud music.
Not impressed. Won’t be going back. Been to so many better beaches in the area.

Я очень боюсь разных насекомых в воздухе и в песке. Кто водится в песке на этом пляже (скорпионы, многоножки, змеи) и на руинах Патары? Как обезопасить себя?

Hi iro4ka61
there might be mosquitoes if you stay till late evening on the beach to watch spectacular sunset (the beach offers fantastic view to sun going done). They are small and almost "soundless", so you realize it only once you suddenly find itching bites... We had this problem also on the open terrace of the restaurant.
Tourist area of Patara ruins is not dangerous, just stay on official walkways.
Enjoy your vacation,
Ash

Hi. Im going to go to Patara next year with my kids of 10 and 7 old for 5 days on july. Please tell me if the water is ok for kids. Is a deep water on seaside? Is big and dangerous waves or is common waves? are mosquitoes on the beach too? How much does it cost to enter the beach. Thank you.

Hi,
Patara beach is without doubts suitable for kids: it's very slowly descending and sandy; many meters away from the waterfront the water level is still around 1m. There are no big waves. We left the beach after sunset and did not see any mosquito whereas there are plenty of them in the hotel we stayed. Admission charge: a family card cost us ca 30 Lira, it allows multiple entries.
Happy vacation!

It depends on the time. You can check the time of sunset in the internet. Concerning the mentioned toilets: they are a desaster!
