This is a great place to take a hike. We took our dog and the trails were well marked and used, but we didn't run across a lot of people....perfect! We really enjoyed the experience.

This is a great hike to stretch out you legs. Not a lot of elevation gains , but you can get in a lot of miles. Would be perfect for trial running. Plenty of room to pass other hikers. A really nice area to visit....More

One of Randolph County's best secrets is the Birkhead Mountain National Wilderness Area. I hike in wilderness, with my family and/or dog, numerous times each month (except during hunting season). The trails are easy to follow and provide peace and beauty in every season. With...More

One of Randolph County, NC, crown jewels and best kept secrets. True wilderness area with miles of well blazed trails and primitive campsites. One of the better known trailheads is near Tot Hill Farms close to the Asheboro Airport. Happy hiking.

Decent hiking, super fun road to get to the parking lot (hope you have an SUV!), but the biggest thing missing is signage. Would be lovely to have a map and better markers. Terrain wasn't overly difficult, and our 5 year old was able to...More

If you like to hike check out this place. But beware if you are not good at directing yourself through the woods stay away! National forest trails are a whole lot different then being in a state or national park. The trails are primitive creek...More
