The views are quite scenic. This is my favorite beach in the area to go to. There are picnic facilities, a wash house and public restrooms at this beach access and plentiful parking. The parking is free at this beach unlike Atlantic Beach and Emerald...More

Fort Macon was built in the 1820s, was captured by Union forces in 1862, and remained in Union hands. The state of NC did a great job of restoring her to her Civil War appearance. Good signage, good visitor center, and well kept grounds. We...More

I probably went to the park 25 years ago and didn't do much walking around it this time either. I went and walked the beaches that are there. It is a very nice quiet beach and it was great for some shelling. I haven't had...More

We had 12 people ages 1-65 and all enjoyed this museum. Great movie to go along with the hands on exhibit. Fort was awesome and kids loved the cannons. Also great gift shop and handy bathrooms. Fort has uneven areas and steep stairs.

Don't miss this and Fort Macon Public Beach... The Fort has a spectacular view and the film they show continuously is worth watching for teen and adults. Air conditioned visitor center is a welcolme break from summer heat.

Our hotel was walking distance to Fort Macon which allowed us to check it out. Very cool fort showing it's old history. Well kept and clean. Informative inside area with lots of mini things for kids to nest around with.

To my knowledge there is no place to dock a boat to go and visit the fort. The Coast Guard base is on one side and open beach on the other with no dock.
