We visited Fort Macon in December, 2016. We were pleasantly surprised. The museum is well organized, clean, and informational. The outdoor Fort is accessible with several stations/rooms to visit. Guided tours are available, although not every day in the iff-season. This Fort is very easy to navigate and enjoy at your leisure. Small children should be supervised as there are... More

I had a blast exploring the fort and being in the presence of history. The trails that go out by the sound and ocean are peaceful and safe. I really enjoyed this visit, two thumbs up. I spent two hours here and could have stayed even longer.

Wife and I went there on a Sunday. Really a lot of information of Fort Macon and it's part in the civil war and how it was used later in other wars and the fort had lots of displays of the lives of the soldiers who were stationed there. I would truly recommend it, good 4 or 5 hours and... More

Thank you Fort Macon staff for being open on Thanksgiving Day. Very happy to see others were enjoying this historic location. Learned much, especially about the role of the Fort during World War II. Visitors can spend a little or a lot of time here. Whichever you choose, do choose to see this site if your in the area. Outstanding... More

Had a wonderful time seeing and hearing about the fort. The weather was perfect the day I was there. If you enjoy the outdoors, it's a must if you are visiting the area.

From the beautiful location to the interactive exhibits, this state park beautifully relates the story of this fort in operation from the Civil War era to WWII. The visitor's center is engaging and features exhibits relating primarily to the fort's natural environment and those that studied it. The fort has been restored to feature the history of the fort with... More

We had been here fifteen years ago, but it has been updated and is very interesting. There are a number of separate rooms with audio discussing the history of the fort. Kids will love the cannons. It's free to enter and free tours at twelve and three. (At least in November)

Wear your walking shoes, and be ready to learn some American History. Fort has been re-stored and is a wonderful time line from the Civil War to WW II. Plan 1 to 2 Hours.
