Our permanent home is now under construction, but you can still watch our carvers and painters at work in our temporary studio, and enjoy browsing our gift shop. We should be in our new home in June, 2017. Founded in 2004, the Historic Carousel and Museum is creating a world class carousel complex in downtown Albany that will draw visitors from around the world and contribute to the economic revitalization of historic downtown Albany.

The whimsical beauty of the carousel animals can't help but bring out the kid and dreamer in you, and the enthusiasm and dedication of the volunteers creating this wonderful legacy is infectious. In this day of fast, cookie-cutter consumerism, it is refreshing to see people giving untold hours of their time to lovingly and painstakingly create a work of art... More

What a beautiful place. The work they are doing is truly amazing. All volunteer workers. The detail and creativity is breathtaking. And even more impressive is the kindness of the people who work there. Where else can I show up with a 7,6 and 3 yo and be welcomed and shown around an amazing art studio. Questions were encouraged. Tattoos... More

I'm a nasty snobby artist, but this experience REALLY BLEW MY HAIR BACK!!!! I probably spent over three hours taking photographs, talking to the carvers and listening to the woman who volunteers in the gift shop give a very through and colorful history of it all. And, of course, fondling and closely examining the marvelous creatures. IT'S SO RARE TO COME... More

This is a wonderful attraction. Definitely worth a visit to Albany, Oregon. The workmanship is superb. Can hardly wait for it to be completed so I can make another visit and ride the finished carousel.

This is going to be a fabulous destination when they are done. Even now, as the animals are still being carved, it is fascinating.

Way cool place to visit. There are animals everywhere that have been carved by volunteers. Most of the time there are people carving as you walk through the building. The work that has been done is absolutely beautiful.. A must see. Located in the historic part of town. Plenty of places to eat or stroll along the river after your... More

Some communities build apartments downtown to encourage people to visit that area. The city of Albany is constructing a carousel. It's being built by volunteers, from various occupations, who are hand carving and hand painting the menagerie that will be on the completed carousel. They have also rebuilt the mechanism. Some are experienced craftsmen while others are learning those trades.... More

I come back here periodicly to see the progress of the carousel. My brother in law worked here on HOPE the girraffe and on some ornamental pieces for the body of the carousel until his death so it is dear to my heart. The workers are more than happy to offer information as they carve and work. Lovely place.
