The Visitors Center, located on the first floor of the rebuilt Aiken Railroad Depot, can assist you with any questions you may have, contains maps and brochures of the area, a calendar of events and more.

The Train Museum, located on the second floor, has nine dioramas that depict the towns, as they were in 1916, along the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company right of way. This railroad became the first designed steam powered commercial railroad in the US and the longest railroad in the world. These dioramas are done in the familiar HO scale and are complimented by interactive displays depicting railroad history.

*The Aiken Trolley Tour also departs from this location.

The Visitors Center in Aiken, SC was such a pleasant surprise. It is well located and in a former train depot (which has been rebuilt). You are pleasantly greeted by a very knowledgeable staff and their pride in the visitors center and their town shines through. Trains are displayed outside, but the real treat is on the second floor of... More

The Depot has a well-kept and enticing museum. My family really enjoyed our visit and made a purchase at the shop. And getting to play music at the weekly jam was great!!

We visited the center on a Saturday morning and the staff were very helpful with suggestions on places to eat and where to have a scenic walk. The models and history of the RR influence on Aiken's history are top quality for both adults and kids!

My son loves trains and he loved the visit. The coaches and trains are still being refurbished, so it will get better with time.

Very interesting tour guide and 90 minute trolley tour by a volunteer whose family has lived in Aiken for 100 years - she knew the first and present owner of every remarkable house in the historical district.

We were greeted by one of the employees, Mrs Newman who graciously told us a brief story of the Aiken-Charleston railroad, gave us a map, a guide and a bar of chocolate! We then went upstairs to see the dioramas of all the train stations between Aiken and Charleston. There is one moving model train that travels between the stations... More

The Aiken Trolley Tour was better than I anticipated. Our tour guide was very informative and a joy to spend 2 hours with. My husband and I took 2 out-of-town guests on this tour. It was such a great way to show them how beautiful the city of Aiken is. They both fell in love with Aiken and plan to... More

We visited the museum as something to see in Aiken with friends. We evacuated from Beaufort, SC during Hurricane Matthew but this was a delight that was unexpected. First-there is no charge for this little gem. The second floor is lined with the most amazing recreations of section of Aiken during its growth. The dioramas are lit and gradually go... More

Although I've lived in Aiken for almost 25 years, I only recently visited the Train Museum! I learned so much more about Aiken's history than I had previously been aware of ! It's amazing!!
