This zoo is unlike any other. All the animals in their care have been rescued from other organizations or donated by owners that could no longer care for them. You can buy food pouches to feed certain animals. A really great experience for people of all ages.

Austin Zoo is a rescue type Zoo so don't go expecting to see Zebra, Hippos and Giraffes! They have great animals like tigers, lions, bears & peacocks that roam and may steal your food if you eat at the picnic tables! 😱 The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. It's a gravel walking path so good footwear and durable stroller are... More

Small zoo, but animals were up close, and kids loved it. Every animal has a story of when it was rescued and what injuries it has (if any). Recommend going around feeding times - we were there about 3:30 p.m. Awesome to see the bears going after all of the food that was left for them! We will return.

For Christmas Eve we decided to take our 17 month old to the zoo. He enjoyed every minute of it and didn't get bored at all. There were plenty of animals to see and I liked the fact that it was more of a sanctuary than a zoo. I also like how it wasn't crowded, unfortunately we were rained out... More

Reading some of the reviews here, I had very low expectations of the Austin Zoo, expecting limited sights and activities for me and my kids. I was pleasantly surprised--yes, it's a rescue zoo, but they've put together an amazing array of animals, from lions, tigers and bears to lemurs, snakes, and birds. We spent most of an afternoon wandering around... More

This is essentially a rescue Zoo and unlike a typical large Zoo like San Antonio. Its a good visit for the family for a few hours and you are supporting the rehousing of mistreated animals as well. Nice variety of wildlife and a pleasant stroll.

All the animals here are rescues. The entry money goes to helping these rescued animals. Your donation is appreciated.

This zoo takes in rescue wild animals and will tell the story at each location. Not here to exploit animals like other zoos. This is here to help save animals and find homes from places they've been that were undesirable. The granddaughters loved it here. A small zoo but well cared for and you walk away with a feeling knowing... More

The best part of this zoo is the giant pig. Because it's a sanctuary/rescue based zoo, they don't really have a lot. I do admire the morality of it, but it isn't really something to go see/do; rather, it's something to make a donation to.
