If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

Capital visit

Was a great day and time. Our board was happy to visit with legislators. The legislation was in sessions but met with staff members.

I only did a walking tour of the grounds. We didn't have much time in the area, but this was worth the stop. The grounds are so well maintained and the structures are beautiful. Wish we had more time to explore inside.

An impressive state capital, beautifully maintained historic site. The rotunded is very impressive. Was a little disappointed some of the areas, such a Superior Court Room, noted on the self guided tour were not open.

Take the tour. When you enter the rotunda area - resist the urge to look up because - spoiler alert - the art is AOK. I enjoyed seeing the House and Senate chambers. Take the walk around the capitol building to see the monuments. Very historic.

I had the chance to visit this beautiful well cared for building and was so impressed. Once I passed the security I was free to roam the building. The architecture is stunning, I particularly liked the Texas star on both the main central area and the ceiling at the top of the dome. It was the 7th largest buidling in... More

The Capitol in Austin is bigger than in Washington DC, like everything in Texas is bigger then anywhere in USA. Very interesting place. It even smells inside differently, there is history in the air.

A great way to begin a trip to Austin is to tour the Capitol building and surrounding gardens - and it is all free! An impressive piece of architecture in its own right, the opportunity to visit the legislative chambers on a Sunday was most welcome. The dome itself is worth the trip to see from the inside.

Awesome. Gift shop is hard to find. Paintings are creepy and the people are super nice. A perfect place to waste time.

Close proximity to the Downtown, the structure is unmistakable. Looks like an exact replica of the US Capitol in Washington DC. A beautiful structure....
