Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I wish I liked Stubb's more, but it's just kind of an awkward experience. You can pay for GA and then be part of what is kind of a scary blob of people standing outside in the heat with no clear ways in / out of the crowd, or you can pay extra and have kind of limited sight lines but not so much crowd. Meh. I'm never excited to see a show there for the sake of going to the venue because as someone who is not tall, it's really necessary to make some compromises in order to even be able to see most of the time.

Recently went to the Stubbs Barbecue Gospel Breakfast with my Wife. It was a nice tourist thing to do, the food was great as was the live Gospel band. If you are in Austin it would be worthwhile considering this as an activity.

I visited the Stubbs BBQ restaurant in Austin yesterday, and I was so disappointed by the "customer service" or the appalling lack of it. I'd travelled over 5000 miles from Scotland to vacation in Texas, and was really really looking forward to visiting Stubbs BBQ place , so much so, that it was the first place we went to when we arrived in Austin. I was so disappointed, the staff were rude and obnoxious , the waitress didn't care that we asked to get a table where we could watch the soccer ( the World Cup was on) and seated us in the back room (the only room without any TVs) even though there were plenty of empty tables in both the other room & bar, the waitress who then took our order was unpleasant, unfriendly and couldn't be bothered with answering questions about the menu, and was completely unhelpful, it really felt like we had ruined her night by coming in to eat. The food was good, very good, at least the BBQ ribs & brisket were , the sides were not so good. When we had finished, the unhelpful waitress, who hadn't come near us since taking our order, lifted away the plates, put down the check, without a word, didn't ask if everything was ok, did we want anything else. On the way out I wanted to buy some of the bbq sauces on sale, and even tho there were two girls behind the counter neither wanted to serve me, they argued over a bank card , after 3 or 4 minutes of waiting at the counter next to them (there were no other customers waiting) neither one could tear themselves away from their conversation to serve me or even ask if they could help me, so I left. I am amazed that a company with the reputation that good can conduct business this way. If you want my advice, buy the sauce at the supermarket, and cook it yourself, and give the Restaurant in Austin a miss !!

This review of Stubb's has nothing to do with the food, but is focused on their outdoor music venue. A lot of my favorite musicians stop at Stubb's, so naturally I follow... I've been here a handful of times now, most recently for Conor Oberst on 9/20/14, and each experience has just been okay.
Since the venue is outdoors, there is a lot of noise pollution. Unless you're right up next to the stage, it can be difficult to hear (and see!) clearly. You're also at the mercy of the weather gods and there is very little shade from the heat nor any overhead covering if it starts to rain. The sound quality gets better the closer you get to the stage, but who really wants to deal with pushing and shoving by uber-fans? I'm too old for that! If you're standing more than about 20 feet back, there's a pretty annoying tree blocking the right side of the stage. I'm generally averse to cutting down perfectly good, healthy trees, but this one just doesn't belong. There is also virtually nowhere to sit unless you're looking to get trampled.
Also, the port-a-potties are disgusting and TP is not replenished as frequently as it should be. For an established venue that is clearly not hurting for funds, you'd think management would install a more permanent bathroom solution.
On the plus side, alcohol is cheaper than I expected. Two vodka/sprite/limes only set me back $11. Not bad considering most other music venues charge about $10 each.
Females: please heed my advice and do not wear heels/wedges here! I love showing off a fab new outfit as much as the next gal, but you're guaranteed to look ridiculous. It's always dusty, and it can become very muddy after recent rain. Tone down your look to casual-cute (e.g., some combination of cotton dress and sandals or tee/shorts/sneakers, etc.) and you'll be immensely more comfortable.

You would think that if you paid for a VIP Experience for a Concert from a long standing establishment you would get what you paid for. That is not the case with the VIP Tickets for Norah Jones. I was very disappointed with the entire experience except for the music. The VIP Lounge does have A/C the food is okay.... if you were to try to listen to the show from the lounge deck the acoustics were terrible, then if you went the VIP Deck next to the stage the view was blocked unless you were in a very small area of the deck were only four people could stand. Never will pay for a VIP Ticket at Stubb's ever again and I Suggest you save your money as well!!!!!

Dined @ this restaurant for lunch on 10/06/18. We both thoroughly enjoyed the Stubbs Major Barbecue Combo Plate...3 meats & 2 sides. The brisket, chicken, spare ribs, pulled pork & sausage were very tasty & moist! The Stubbs Barbecue Sauce is on the table & you add as much or as little as you desire... We did spring for the cornbread, with green chilies, which was moist & flavorful. Highly recommend this restaurant!
There is no parking @ this restaurant. You will need to park on the street or lot...& PAY!! Also, there are many homeless people in this area... No straws are available @ the restaurant.

Never discuss religion, politics or where to get the best BBQ.
I have no complaints about meat texture, flavor, fat content, serving temperature, quantity.
The very good rating instead of average is based upon excellent wait staff service and attitude, menu offerings and combinations, fair prices, the location, the bars, the "dance hall" downstairs, the outdoor concert area, the clientele.
I'd return because I like the place.
Pay for parking on side streets. Note the hours when no payment is required.
Often the long line on the sidewalk is for entrance to the concert area. Go to the corner for the restaurant.

Although I read great reviews prior to visiting this restaurant and despite the fact that I was REALLY hungry.......oh boy.......I believe this place is terribly overrated.
Clearly others disagree, as it was remarkably crowded with plenty of "atmosphere"........the food was, well, so-so. A high school lunch. Weak.
Shame.

Really enjoy music at Stubbs. Convenient location. good outdoor stage area. The venue would be much better with more seating near concessions and faster concession service. No need to get to concert too early as the courtyard is wide open and anytime someone leaves their spot to grab a drink or food, you can simply move forward should you choose to. Never had a problem getting as close as I wanted, since the volume needed to fill the courtyard make standing too close unnecessary.

Is it super smoky inside the restaurant? I’m wondering if a person with asthma would be triggered by eating there.

As I recall, my issue was the lack of smoke. The decor is perfect but the food was not that great.

What is the indoor stage like? My daughters are 5’ so wondering how they can see- we will get there very early of course but wanted to know the lay of the land. 😊
Also if they say on website doors open at 8pm is that the actual time or do people get in early if they are eating or something?

Does the VIP room have seating? Also, is the VIP room located in a desirable area, meaning you can see and are close to the artists and restrooms? Thanks for any information on the VIP section.
