This is where you want to go to have a good time. Plenty of restuarants and shopping. Young crowd, but authentic.

Yes there are some nice restaurants and interesting shops, but its obvious that these businesses are dependent on tourists. So if you want where the local goes this wouldn't be it.

We took a walk down Congress Avenue. Unfortunately, we went on New Year's Day. I had wondered if places would be open. The rest of my party assured me that nobody closes on New Year's Day. Wrong! Most of the places were closed. But we did get a nice walk out of it and there were a few places open.... More

Eclectic but dirty and very odd shops. Many of them had a funky smell to them. I wouldn't say this is a must see of Austin.

Decided to see the eclectic people of Soco. We felt like we were in the Twilight Zone. It seemed San Fran was placed in the middle of Austin, Texas. Lots of shops, bars & restaurants. You have to see the costume shop, Lucy in disguise. Just spent about an hour or two in the several block radius. Lots street fairs,... More

Lots of fun and bought wonderful gifts. Great food and lots of fun walking around the street. Make sure to use FASTEN (like UBER).

South congress is the true Austin and what it use to be prior to corporate America buying out downtown. It's a hippy area that's loosing its roots but you can still enjoy it before it's gone.

We headed to SoCo without a real plan, just wanting to get out of the chain restaurants by our hotel. There was a wide variety of cute shops: clothing, art, costumes for fun browsing. Lots of restaurants, many of them highly rated on trip advisor were convenient. There were also bars and we were able to find a great show... More
