We took a church youth group to see this memorial as they had enacted the raising of the flag at a Veteran's Day service at church. It is a bit off the beaten path so not as crowded. You can walk from the memorial past the bell tower down the hill to the left and enter Arlington Cemetery from a... More

First off, I'm an ex-Marine so if you want to write my review off as prejudiced, go right ahead...but you'd be making a mistake. Go see it first and then write it off if you wish. When you go, focus first on the moment in history and what the monument represents; the battles fought and the lives lost. Then, get... More

I'd visited DC more times than I can count and somehow had never managed to visit the USMC War Memorial. This is a really amazing memorial to our Marines and is definitely worth visiting, especially in conjunction with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery.

Honored to see it. Long walk from Arlington Cemetery. It is a very large monument when up close to it. Very good condition. Looks just like the picture.

It's an inspiring statue made in memory to an incredible image from the battle of Iwo Jima. It's really amazing to see the flag dancing in the wind.

A wonderful and humbling place to see. Very windy and cold day when we visited. But to see the U.S.A. flag flying in the breeze, folks it's an amazing sight. To think of what others have done for our freedom. If the weather would have been 100 degrees, instead of freezing, there would have still been cold shivers running up... More

Very moving and inspriational Memorial. Bring your camera as the view into DC is surreal with the backdrop of the Wahington Monument and other memorials. I recommend going early in the morning as you will have the place to yourself. You can alsowalk over to the edge of Arlington National Cemetary and have more views of the expansive final resting... Even on a cold overcast February gloomy day, this turned out to be fun for the whole crew including the kids... search detail in the bronze, and the size is spectacular! All the battles the Marines have been in are listed on the side of the monument with the exception of the current battles. Everybody loved it I would definitely... More

This famous memorial is base don Joe Rosenthal's equally famous photo of US Marines raising the flag on Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. On summer Tuesdays, the Marines perform an excellent Evening Parade there. This is easily worth a stop on your Washington DC visit.
