Magnificent design with a great view of D.C.

Big enough to be seen from miles around, but also with human-scaled sculptural elements and inscriptions dedicated to USAF heroes.

We happened upon this memorial while driving around near Arlington National Cemetery on another fun ride with the Garmin. I knew exactly what it was when I spotted it because I saw a similar, much smaller version of it on the Memorial Walkway & Garden at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. This memorial is on the grounds... More

Ranging in height from 201 to 270 feet high, these stainless steel spires represent the Thunderbirds signature "Bomb Burst" maneuver! It can be seen from miles away, even though it is actually located in Ft Myer. It is especially moving when vied from Arlington National Cemetery.

Very cool and quick stop. The spires are truly amazing to see; an engineering marvel. Make it a quick stop after the Iwo Jima memorial.

This is a fitting tribute to our air forces from the beginning to now. The silver pillars that stream into the sky are impressive. Wish the gift shop was open but was closed on a weekday, with a sign saying to check out the internet.

The soaring sculpture is meant to represent jets taking off and overlooks Arlington. There are monuments to the various Air Force missions, especially detailed for WWII. There is a beautiful etched glass memorial to lost airmen. Leave yourself about 20 minutes, parking is free.

We visited this memorial on a sunny cloudless day and the stainless steel spires seemed to go on forever into the sky. The memorial is on a hill overlooking DC which is amazing. The spires can also be seen from many areas of the city as well as Arlington National Cemetery.

Not only the memorial itself is worth a closer view, but the oversight over Washington itself is worth a walk up to the Air Force Memorial!!

This is one of my favorite memorials in the area. If you've ever seen the USAF Thunderbirds, this memorial will remind you of them. The upward sweeping motion of the design is uplifting and celebratory.
