Depending on the trails you choose, this can be a challenging hike. Great views. You can drive up if you don't feel like the hike and walk to the viewpoint. Trails are all around this area, on the opposite side of the main road (across from the parking area) you can hike to the back of heart lake very easily.

There are so many great trails to hike and bike with Heart Lake and Whistle Lake are contiguous to the park. There are many skill levels represented, from flat and easy to steep and fairly challenging. I hike the trails in various weather and it is always beautiful.

Once you get up there however there is still some rock hopping and cllimbing around for the really good views. What I'm saying is, it might be hard for your 90 year old mother. I have heard of people hiking up and then being shocked to see people up there who simply drove up. Now you know.

To get here, my husband was the driver and I was the navigator using an iPhone Map app. It wasn't really hard to find and not too far from town. This place has awesome views of the islands in the Puget Sound. Pretty interesting stuff. Best part is capturing awesome sunset views. My husband and I were here well into... More

Mt. Erie has very good views of the forest lands and distant farm land and the mountains if it is clear. It is a bit hard to find for some people. The signs are small. The road up to the top is steep with lots of switchbacks. Not suitable for RV's or trailers. Limited parking up top but usually enough.... More

We finally headed up to the top of Mt. Erie near Anacortes and were rewarded with an incredibly drive and then equally amazing scenery at the top..What a view!

We like to walk up here now and then to see if we can still do it. It gives us a good challenge. We just walk the road - but there are lots of trails around too. There are some good views at the top of the valley.

South of the historical Anacortes downtown, the Mt. Erie Park is yet another unforgettable place on Fidalgo Island. Either of the two view points (a short hike from the car parking spot) give you the chance of a panoramic view of western half of the island, Campbell Lake and Puget Sound with it's many island in the area. Breathtaking!

Mt. Erie is a city park on the south edge of Anacortes, just south of Heart Lake. Make your choice, either hike or drive to the top of the mountain. You will find 2 viewpoints on the right, near the top of the road. The first looks NW to Barrows Bay, Skyline Marina and the San Juan Islands. The view... More

A little bit of imagination to call it a mountain (1273'), but the views are certainly worth the drive through the Anacortes Community Forest Lands, with all their hiking trails. The vista is mostly to the south towards Lake Campbell, but in the evening, as the sun sets, the view over the San Juan Islands at one of the overlooks... More
