Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ever since visiting Mojiko in April 2018 and seeing the Station building shrouded in scaffolding, undergoing restoration, I expressed a desire to return one day when the work was completed. 18-months on, I got the opportunity whilst staying in Kokura to make a fleeting visit to Mojiko to view the result of the lengthy Restoration Project.
The facade of the Neo-Rennaissance building (built 1914) has been restored to its' former glory and brought bang-up to the 21st Century with the inclusion of modern ticketing facilities and a Starbuck's to boot.
With the dimly lit period wooden canopies over the Station Platforms, all that's missing from this iconic scene is an original locomotive idly discharging clouds of steam!

Just a short JR ride from Kokura in my case.

An old station that has exhibits. Attached to the station are some shops for tourist. Worth a visit.

I had wanted to visit Mojiko, but the day I went (10 March 2019), it rained so hard that I ended up visiting the Mojiko Train Station on its Grand Opening Day, after a 7-year restoration. The building, in Renaissance style, was completed in 1914. The restoration was carried out meticulously and tastefully. On the Grand Opening Day, there were special ceremonies, exhibition, and video presentation on the restoration. The restaurant on the 2nd floor (used to be for VIPs) and a Starbucks Cafe on the ground floor (previously a waiting room for 3rd class passengers) also had their opening that day.
It's an interesting visit, despite the poor weather.

It may only be 10 ~ 15 minutes up the line from the ultra-modern Kokura Station to the historic northernmost terminus of the Kyushu Railway at Mojiko, but in making that short trip you are transported back more than a century to the heyday of the railroad. Whilst the facade of the station (a symmetrical wooden structure built in neo-Renaissance style and opened in 1914) is presently undergoing a long-term restoration and shrouded in scaffolding, the atmosphere of the period is still very evident throughout the remainder of the station in everyday use.
With the wooden platform canopies and the many items of railway memorabilia dotted about the station, it is truly the gateway to the wonderful Retro Town of Mojiko. On a side note; how many Railway Stations have you come across with their own signature beer?

This station was opened about 120 years ago. It's famous for a European style station building. However it is under construction now due to renovation until 2018. I didn't see original design of the station. I've found some interesting things in the station. Old drinking water machine, nostalgic toilet and old signage of the station. I will come back after the station reopen.

This used to be old retro memorial station building. Unfortunately, this is now under renovation construction. The main entrance area has a construction cover. They rent iPad for those who need renovation process guide. The renovation is scheduled to be completed by March, 2018.

This is billed as a retro style area. You are greeted with old time music piped through the pa system. There are rickshaws to take you around for a cost. I didn't find the steam locomotive station, but went for a look at the port. It is more like a small sea villiage. The ferry leaves for here to go across to Shimoneseki where there is Yume Tower and an aquarium. You can walk around the shore to the Kanmon Tunnel pedestrian walk way, howevere in the heat it was better to get a taxi or you could get the rickshaws. It cost around 700 yen to catch a taxi to the tunnel. There are some nice old buildings there but you would have to be an enthusiast to really go there as there wasn't much else there
