Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not really worth the 20 minute drive from Coroico, but if you're staying somewhere without a pool, these falls would be worthwhile visiting. There are 3 along about one kilometre of road. I stopped at the first one; glanced at the second one and drove past the third one; which had much more promise than the first two. So perhaps I should have stopped and looked.

Just a warning to anyone who wants to walk to the waterfalls. I was bitten by a dog on the track (just above the waterfall) - was completely unprovoked (didn't even bark) and came up from behind.
I could have just been unlucky.

You don't really need a guide but it is well worth engaging one from the tourist office in the ain square -good information, very knowledgeable and good company - and it supports the local economy - don't now if they speak English..

The 3rd waterfall is stunning and it has a small pool at the bottom for a refreshing swim. I had to make do with a paddle this time, if I come again I will definitely be swimming. 4Bs entry and beautiful views. We took a taxi from Coroico, he waited an hour and took us back. We had heard that you could walk down to the lower falls and get a taxi back from there, but as we didn't see any on our way up, we decided not to risk it.

To get on the place we need to descend from 4500 meter above the sea, where you will able to enjoy amazing views of thick jungle, fog, green everywhere, just an incredible exprience.
I started from La paz , here I took a mini bus(capacity of 7 to 14 people) which charged me between $20-$30 bolivianos. You can take the bus in La terminal provicional de minasa located in Villa Fátima of La Paz,they depart many times in a day almost each one hour. A estimate time of travel is 3 hours to get on the place, here we pass above the old path which is call "El camino de la muerte" or "death route" there are many stories about deaths happened because the shape and infrastructure of the way , so nowadays a new road is used instead of this, but bicycling tours are developed here and accompanied with a professional a group of people ride down this dangerous and adrenaline path.
Coroico has three falls that are called San juan Waterfalls, the route to get to them is really clear and you also can find a map in the principal square of the place there is a tourism agency which gift you maps and everything with useful information.
The names of the falls are cochuna, san felix and san jacinto.
In the last one you have to pay the two first are free, but all the people say that the second one is better than the third, so i just went until the second fall which is huge and has a kind of pool. To get to the place were between 1-2 hours walking, during your trekking you will find excellent spots to take pictures. This walking is so nice because its overlooks and flora and fauna, you will realize how many different butterflies could exist!
It's so cheap, I slept in Hostal El franklin , a little far away from downtown but people there were so nice and friendly !
The climate is like jungle climate so always hot and humid, there are so many mosquitos which eat you completely if you don't put any cream against them.
Here you will eat so many bananas, here is full of this fruit so it's cheap and they eat it in different kind of preparation like dessert, fries and baked

I know you can go to the waterfalls via bus or taxi but we weren't in a rush so decided to walk. We only made it to the 1st waterfall (which was dammed and blocked by a concrete wall), maybe the 2nd one (barely visible) before the route was blocked by a gate and a sign saying 'Private Property'. They've used the water from these waterfalls to divert it to the town to provide a water supply so they're not the scenic attraction they used to be. I think the 3rd waterfall is the nice one but we didn't manage to get there.
However, it was a good walk with amazing views. We walked up to the church then branched off on the path and it took us along the mountainside overlooking coca fields, banana plantations, cows grazing and farmhouses. The walk isn't signposted and can be hard to see as it seems like it isn't used a lot and was quite overgrown. It took us about 2hrs to get to the first waterfall and we had to cross the now dry river to scramble up some rocks to continue the walk. When we got to the locked gate we turned back and took the same route back to town. It was very quiet, the only people we saw were a few farmers in their fields. There is nothing along the route so take plenty of water and snacks. We encountered a German couple who had taken the same route as us and discovered the cemented first waterfall. I don't know if they managed to go further on because we'd already turned back.
If you are in good shape and want to do a nice, easy walk through a quiet, traditional part of Bolivia then this is perfect. The ledge can get very narrow in places so you have to be careful of your footing but aside from that it is generally flat after the church until you get to the waterfall.
To get to the start of the path you can ask locals (if you speak Spanish) or head to the church (follow the 13 crosses) which is uphill, then once you get to the church, branch off left where you will see a path and follow this. As far as I could see there was only 1 path and it didn't branch off except onto a dirt track to a farm. Don't go alone because if something happens to you there is literally no one around and the path is extremely quiet.

We took the bus for 5bs. from Coroico to the San Juan waterfall, entrance is a 3Bs and after a sort hike uphill one can dip into an artificial pool just below the waterfall. There a cabins to change clothes and on the parking one can find all kinds of snacks and people selling barbecued stuff.
What I liked in particular that we were one of the only foreigners enjoying this beautiful place together with Bolivians. The atmosphere was relaxed and everyone just enjoyed the stunning view or took a swim in the circa 130cm deep water.
Lovely place, I recommend on hot days.

You can get to the first falls walking from town in about 1.5 hours. Lonely Planet says something or other about a trail from El Calvario... don't do it. Not maintained, you'll feel like you're lost the entire time, and climbs to an unnecessary altitude above the road before you descend to the falls (which are alongside the road anyway). I ended up having to cut down through some coca farmer's plot to get out to the falls.
Anyway. Falls are great. Hike out from town so you're nice and hot by the time you get there, then hitchhike or stop a passing taxi to get back into town. No food and only dubious water sources along the way so keep that in mind. Also bring a few Bs. You've got to pay to access some of the falls (like 2 Bs). Totally worth doing if you're in Coroico.

We took a minivan from the centre of Coroico for only 3 dollars per person. We only saw the third waterfall - but it was stunning. Easy to find - about 20 minutes walk following a path from the dirt road. There is also a viewpoint where you'll be able to see the whole valley, and at the bottom of the waterfall there is a small pool where it is possible to take a bath (though in winter season the water is a bit chilly). Loved seeing this, and took some excellent panoramic photos.
