Banja Luka

Im happy to see it is rebuilt after Bosnian war. Banja Luka is a nice Bosnian town by the river. So much to experience.

One of the official sightseeing of Banja Luka. Burnt during the war, renewed recently, symbol that multi-ethnicity is still alive.

It was very much missed when it did not exist between 1993 and 2015 due to being a victim of Ethnic Cleansing in the Center of Banja Luka. It was nicely rebuilt according to the actual standards in reconstructing historical buildings and is a worth while visit for everybody.

Looks great, especially at night with some very smart lighting. It was a UNESCO world heritage site before it was destroyed, it took some time to reconstruct it, but it is here again in all its glory.

Before this beautiful mosque was destroyed during the war in Bosnia, it was considered to be one of the most remarkable mosques in the Balkans. Even though it took a lot of time to do its reconstruction, the remade version of Ferhadija mosque completely reaches it previous beauty. Both the internal and external parts of Ferhadija are simply breathtaking, especially... More

Ferhat Pasha's mosque, known as Ferhadija, was built in 1579 and represents (with Gazi Husrev Bey's mosque in Sarajevo) the most beautiful monument of Ottoman sacral architecture in Bosnia. All 16 mosques in Banja Luka including Ferhadija, and also some Catholic churches, were destroyed by Serbs during the war 1992-1995 in city where there was no war conflicts. They were... More

It is good to see that this mosque was rebuilt after the war and while it looks quite new it retains some of the character of when it was originally built. It seems that this mosque has been accepted as part of the city.

Although being a sceptic for a while now, it is my opinion God inspires all the best in people in peace, but the worst of it in times of war (with minor exceptions, for sure). Just like the Orthodox cathedral was brought down in WWI, this holy temple was destroyed in the Yugoslav civil war 22 years ago. Luckily, it's... More
