Perfect for a glimpse of the native culture and crafts. And of course a great place for handicrafts shopping. Outside and nearby, you have also good shooping area, the 'Local da Primeira Messa' cross, and the sand walk at low tide to the coral reef at sunset...

Indian village that aims to sell their handicraft for tourists
I think this didn't change a lot for the last 500 hundred years when portuguese explorers arrive to Brazil
it is, however, nice to know their culture and how was Brazilian people before europeans arrive

We signed up for this excursion with our hotel, not knowing what to expect. We were the only two people who went that day so we got a real one-on-one experience. Our hotel van dropped us off at the entrance then a young boy silently walked us through the woods (uphill on a muddy path filled with tree roots, therefore the warning about wearing good shoes). At the top we spoke to several other boys and learned about plants and animal traps (another half hour of walking), then we went to a little store to shop for hand-made items they were selling for the same prices as downtown, so it was nicer to buy them here. A woman served us some cooked fish while another boy painted our faces. Since we were the only guests that day, it was very casual and they did not do any of their dances, but I felt we got to see something more authentic.

Very nice place.
We were guided by an indian warrior up a mountain path into their village which is in a plateau like place on top of the mountain
About 30 families live there and we shared their activities
Great place to visit

We had a great time learning about the Pataxo. A fascinating story and they had so much to share. Their plants and homes and the way they trap animals. We even got to eat some fish that was roasted in leaves, which was delicious. Our son had his face painted and we danced with them. We all had a great day here and recommend it for families.

They called it Pataxo Shopping. a mixing of Pataxo indian community with shopping mall. I bought a beautiful panache. You also can learn a little about the local history. Near by the have a catholic cross where is well know to be the place where the Portuguese people arrived for the first time in Brazil. Also the place where the first mass was realized. Brazil is the biggest Catholic country in the world.
