It is lovely church, with a character of its own and very different from others in the old city. The best time to visit is when there is a mass happening. Great music and such fervor of those attending, singing and dancing to the music

Very beautiful church. If it's open you definately must stop in. It is good to stop and say a prayer and the atmosphere is quiet so one can kneel and pray. I thought the atmosphere was comforting. The artwork on the ceiling is breathtaking. This...More

I went to mass at 18:30 on tuesday. I had been told they sing to the rhythm of drums. The experience starts slowly, but it gets better and better. It is the real thing, with locals attending, and sharing prayers and bread. Unique experience.

The Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosario dos Pretos is one of 365 churches in Salvador. Part of the history of the period of slavery is a must for tourists. There are signs (in English) explaining its history. I recommend attending Mass.
