Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Be careful: most of the museum only opens in the afternoon (from 1pm). When i went, only one part was open, and it was good. Mostly contemporary artists (lots of photos). The rest was closed. There is also a café and a art cinema. The location is great, in old buildings on the seashore.

My first experience in Salvador. It was beautiful, full with meaningful and thought-provoking pieces. The staff was very friendly and gave me some great tips and explanations. Felt at comfort and left inspired.

I’ve been to this MAM before and praised it. This time, nothing to praise. The collection is stagnant; the site doesn’t work, there is no information; the employees don’t know anything and service is very lousy! Something wrong is going on. The MAM looks abandoned! What happened to the previous manager? Don’t loose your time and transportation. The only thing that remains good is the jazz music which is outsourced!
A real pity!

The museum itself is small. We tried different days to visit and each day some part of it was closed, even if google said otherwise.
I bought a book at its store but when I decided to open it was all glued due to humidity. Next day I came back to changed in the morning. It was closed. But the lady from the store was very nice and gave me back my money.
Very sunset by it side though.

Visiting Salvador's "Museu de Arte Moderna" is absolutely a must! Located at historical "Solar do Unhão", the museum follows a modern concept of museology, including permanent and temporary exhibitions, film sessions, art classes, a sculptures park and jazz sessions on special days. A café and awesome sunsets over "Baía de Todos os Santos" complete the scene. "Solar do Unhão" dates from the 17th century and has been restored over the years. Acclaimed Italian architect Lina Bo Bardi undertook the task to restore, back in 1959, the old manor house. A monumental staircase located right inside of the main exhibition hall was designed by her. Its wood fittings follow the same techniques used on the manufacturing of ancient ox carts. Amazing! Try to visit - if it is opened - the lovely chapel at the museum's entrace: "Capela de Nossa Senhora da Conceição". Before going, call and check opening hours. Use taxis at all times and do your best to be there for sunset. You won't regret! Enjoy!

It's beautiful building with beachfront where a fresh air views happening together. Very relaxing spot although it's small but full of integrity standard site.

I have mixed feelings about this museum. In one hand, I enjoyed their little colection and mostly, the architecture of the place. It had a magnificent set of stairs that didn't go anywhere. The view from behind the bulding made for pretty pictures too. But on the other hand, it is in the middle of nowhere so the only way to get there is by taxi/uber, and the display is so small (just one room) that you are done in about 15 minutes tops.
I don't regret going, just wish they had more to offer.

The collection of about 15 paintings is in a old renovated warehouse with major paintings from volai a beautiful Portinari, a Tarsila an others. The wooden staircase is also of interest. The church housed a temporary exhibit..

note: the 'jam no mam' event does NOT run all year round (it ends at the end of May for winter)

I went to jam no mam every Saturday for two months this year at around 4pm to see the sunset and listen to live jazz music with friends. Incredible value for money: entry is 4 or 8 reais. The location is amazing with a view other the baia de todos os santos, highly recommend a visit!

really worth getting there early so you can visit the galleries before going to watch the sunset
