Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I booked five nights here hoping to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet in a tranquil setting. That wasn’t the case. The village has wisely banned outside vehicles, but unfortunately it’s more likely rather than trying to create a peaceful setting, it’s more that there just wasn’t room for them given the hotel trucks, motorcycles, dune buggies, and ATV’s. At some times during the day, the streets become jammed with traffic. The drivers seem to have little regard for the pedestrians. Stereos blaring. Speeding. Way too close to pedestrians. The beaches are nice though once you get away from the village. There are many, many restaurant choices and prices are reasonable given the resort status. Expect to spend US $20 for a meal. A large beer is around $3 US. Note that getting here in a rental car is an ordeal because it’s through the national park and the sand dunes. The rental car has to be parked outside the village anyway, so it won’t do you any good once here. You will also need to let much of the air out of your tires to get enough traction to make it through the dunes without 4x4. I have a lot of experience off road in rental cars and I got stuck. Therefore, I recommend a transit service. Jeri in my opinion, is best suited for Spring breakers who want to drink and lay on the beach. If you’re looking for quiet relaxation, keep looking. Also, be wary of the reviews on here for restaurants and tours. There are many with tons of five star reviews but no written comments. I’ve never seen that before . . . be suspicious.

20 years ago Jeri was a great place with maybe 150 beds today it has 7,000 tourist beds and beach is filthy with trash. They charge you a fee to enter but do not clean up and permit loud music throughout the village. Jericoacoara is not what it was today it is the Ibiza of Brasil but at least the real Ibiza has changed for the better. Not Jeri!

Firstly, that photo is not from Jericoacoara’s beach but from Lagos do Paraisso. Before coming to Jericoacoara and spending a week there I had heard lots of good things about this place. People said it was fantastic, an awesome place. Nothing further from the truth. The main beach stinks because of the algae, lots of them and very smelly. The tourist is exploited all the time. They try to take until the last cent out of you. Things are expensive. There’s a day trip to the east side where every stop you need to pay either to get in a fake “natural” pool or to a beach. Jericoacoara is a place for rich people to go take photos . It’s all so very noisy with all kinds of vehicles driving around the narrow streets at all times so forget about sleeping well.

Jericoacoara is definitely a marketing issue, nothing more than that.
It is absolutely not worth to visit it, too far away from Fortaleza which is the closest civilized town next to it. 400 km of very bad roads , imagine how difficult it is for those under educated people of Jeri to get and to maintain fresh their purchases as meat vegetables. In Jeri it is absolutely NOT possible to drink water or to get ice in your drink, you will pass the next 3 days sitting on an ugly toilet.
There so many nice places in the world, do not lose your time and money to go there.

WARNING this place is not a hippy chilled out vibe relaxed low key Place. It’s packed full of tacky bars , people . Truly awful . Everything is about making money to the point where the ice cream parlour won’t allow u to sample a flavour ! I mean what the hell. It’s just a horrid vibe. We left and went to nearby Prea which IS a chilled out lovely vibe if that’s what you’re looking for . It seems things have changed in jeri since they opened the airport and it’s flooded with people. Stay clear

I have travelled extensively through Brasil and can honestly say Jericocoara is one of the worst I have ever visited in my entire life . It is way overrated , not very clean and the beach infrastructure , except for one or two more exclusive sites , leaves much to be desired . It is a place to definitely AVOID during the pandemics due to the inability of people to keep social distancing .

I travel monthly for work, on the worse and dangerous places; so,
the following recension it is reliable.

You could arrive to Jericoacoara from two locations. I have reached it through Prea, driving on the beach.
From the main road, you will turn into a dirty road, and meet on the junction a group young locals.
They will try to convince/force you, to let them drive your car or pay a fee to enter...there are no fees and the road is suitable to every car. Do not STOP even if they shout.

Once in Prea, you will arrive at T corner next to the beach,
where there will be locals that will strongly try to stop you. They want money for any information,
drive your car, or carry you to Jari by buggy or mototaxi. The prices are absolutely high.

From Prea you can only driving on the beach with a 4x4. Even if the locals wants to drive your car,
disregard the offer, because it is not only sand, but mostly very bumpy road with sand.
If you slow down you will get stuck, but if you drive fast, will destroy the car, and it is a busy way.

There are plenty of public busses and lorry for tourists (5 Reals one way).
Nobody will give you any information, but instead that,
will direct you to ask to the locals at the T corner. It is forbidden to anybody to give informations,
by the local mafia. Everyboy are very scare of the boys.
They hold the transportation market, and will never give you infos how to catch a bus or lorry.

To catch the bus or lorry (if it is empty), just stop it by the road, showing the right open hand.

Jari is an open sky mall, crowded of people, where there are only pousadas (300). It is a place for the
night life that offers you, cocktails, drug, prostitutes. The sandy roads supposed to be free to walk, but in effect are a path where buggys, motorbikes, and taxis runs.

However the restaurants are beautiful, and the atmosfere of the one in the beach, beautiful as well.

On the beaches there are plenty of horses and donkeys for tourists, dogs as well.
The smell of their pee, is everywhere.

There are plenty of activities on the desert, riding animals, ATVs (Quad), buggys, motorbikes.
It is a noisy and crowdy desert.
If you want the real Sahara desert, just go to Paracuru, 250Km south. It is quiet too.

During the late night the atmosphere could easily turn for the worse, especially on the weekends.
Too many people drunks and drug. Especially the locals, are looking for brawl.

There is no police around, and during bad situations nobody defends tourists.

Same game of the transportation, on the way back. No infos allowed, but be carefull,
locals will try to make you lose the public transportations, using the worse tricks.

For any small reason, if you got an issue with someone, your vacation will be over, because
the locals will persecute you non stop.

I strongly suggest to take just a daily tour.

Driving a long way with our rented car, then, tired, a spontaneous meeting with a guide, Marciel, got our trust, and from there to incredible lakes, dunes, lagoons, the most amazing sunset you'll ever see, and an adventourous druve through dunes with our guide. Great food and prices as well. A few hours there and you are a better, tranquile person. A week? I'll try again
