Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have been told that the Central Market has become much more of a tourist attraction now than what it used to be, and most of the stands did sell most of the same items (other than different brands or varieties). There are a few which sell fruits, or original products but you need to look carefully. One of the best was a bulk chocolate/fruit shop that had products I didn't see elsewhere, like chocolate covered Acai, apricots and other Brazil specific fruits. And, you get to try samples of each.

Lot of liquors, tourist souvenirs and such across many of the stores. The food courts were busy, and the small bars were full too.

I also agree with previous reviewers that they should stop selling puppies and birds. But historically this was where chickens were bought and sold so that also keeps some of the originality of it. That section reminds me of many other places across the world where the same occurs. Bring hand sanitizer, I was told they are known for sick animals historically.

There are bathrooms, there are some with automatic gates which you need a keycard to access, but a little further away there are others which you have to pay 2 Reals to use and someone at the window to take you money. As expected, not the cleanest so try to avoid if you can.

Oh, and for some reason catching an Uber outside was somewhat difficult, and took a long time. There were multiple people facing the same problem.

Not so many fresh food and groceries anymore. A typical touristic trap. Today I only would suggest for tourist people. Citizens from Belo Horizonte don´t have many reasons go there ....

I was born in Belo Horizonte and I live here for 43 years. In my childhood I used to go with my parents to shop groceries, fruits and vegetables in " Mercado Central". A good smell remains in my memories.

That week I visited Mercado Central looking for some fresh ingredients and I got dissapointed. A lot of shops selling almost the same thing: Canastra Cheese, Doce de Leite "Caramel Milk"/ Dulce de Leche" , fitness supplements, some grocery and seasoning shops, but only 4 shops selling fresh ingredients like vegetables and fruits and some bars selling cold beer with some finger food.

Another problem is the parking lot R$ 12,00 an hour.... Is too much expensive....and during the weekends is impossible to park there.... Use taxi or applications like Uber.

Unfortunately I felt very very sad, because Mercado Central today is an typical shopping center like any other. Not the Mercado that the fresh food smell will kept in my memory forever....

Got some nice food and drink. A bit repetitive on selection (cheese stands have same cheese, souvenir stands have same souvenirs, etc).

A minus for keeping live animals in small cages.

Being a local resident, I can recommend this place as a typical and unique place in town. It has been the central food market of the city since the 1920´s. Fresh fruits and vegetables, some typical from the region, butechers shop, household appliances, best in country regional sugar cane spirits (cachaça) and cheeses. "Stand up" bars where you can taste some unique local flavours

Very busy place with a lot of small shops from all Brazil and of course typical Mineiros food, drinks and souvenirs. There is a radio station on upper floor, all kind of food from Minas Gerais state. Small shops and restaurant where you can buy or enjoy local delicatessens. Stones souvenirs it’s have to buy as region famous for it. Good place to visit with friends and make some shopping.

BH Central Market is a very interesting place to visit as it has many different types of trade. From local souvenirs to various types of food, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as the household and even pet trade. Its variety and diversity attracts a lot of people. It also has bars and snack bars for a quick snack. Should know.
