Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Lagoa da Pampulha (Pampulha lake) and the surrounding area are definitely a must see whenever you are visiting Belo Horizonte.

It just a really calm area where you can just relax by the water or do a wide variety of activities.

Be sure to also check out the local, small church which is also a must see.

An artificial lake wild a greater than 10 miles walkway around it. Worth visiting for the Niemeyer’s buildings.

Beautiful place with lots of things to see: a very modern church projected by Oscar Niemeyer in the 50ties and it was so modern that the Catholic Bishop did not allow masses there.
Years later it was allowed.
There are good restaurants, Statues, a museum and a Zoo, all around the lake.

A very large lake, took about 20 minute to drive around, and has a walking/biking path encircling it. I think I saw a couple of playgrounds and picnic areas. But, I think the main attraction to the lake are the bars and restaurants around it. So, if you are going to just the lake, then there may not be much to do.

Huge park. Around the lagoon I believe is 24 kilometers. There's a resident alligator, although I didn't see him. The lagoon is quite polluted but the park and trails are worth the visit.

Search in advance where exactly is the place you want to visit around Lagoa. The lake is inmense and, in case you're opposite to where you should be, you may have a hard time getting to the right spot. Views are beautiful, very quiet and peaceful area. Beautiful big houses by the lake.

I was with friends when I visited the Lake. I’m from a small city in the Philippines, and we have a lake, but this one is huge. It is almost dreamy. A lot of people come from other places just to relax and enjoy the scenery. This is a nice place to bond with your family — Lots of food to try, places to see and some activities to check out.

Visited here with friends and family during a very rainy weekend. It is a huge area that could take awhile to explore, very pretty location, wildlife, birds and plants. Would be nice for a bike ride in good weather. During our visit weather was not good, so many experiences were not available. But the beautify of the area was still evident.

I'm afraid to say that this lagoa stinks pretty bad, it's like the city sewage is poured into it. Yet it's a must see.

This is Pampulha's Lagoon, the most extensive one in Belo Horizonte. It's also the most iconic and curious, since it was, as not many people know, artifically built. It's iconic because it represents the golden era, the 60s, when the then Brazilian president, Juscelino Kubitschek, a man from Minas Gerais, invested millions to build the country's capital, in the country's mid-western territory. Before being elected president, Juscelino served as Belo Horizonte's Mayor. He was a loved political figure and paved many urban areas, both in Belo Horizonte and in the country's capital. The Pampulha region (and its Lagoa) became, decades later, the memoir of his times of glory, with lots of attractions in its surroundings, as the Museu de Arte da Pampulha, the beautiful museum in the lagoon's edge, the Casa do Baile, literally, a very beautiful art-deco ballroom, the Pampulha's Church, a very delicate and peculiar church also in the edge of the lagoon, with Portinari's ceramic tiles in all its exterior walls. Pampulha is the complex around the whole lagoon that should be visited with enough time to be seized. Many nice and different attractions to see here and a lot of Belo Horizonte's history. The lagoon itself nowadays is, unfortunately, dirty and smelly but the landscape, as a whole, is worth seeing. You can stop in one of the numerous bars or restaurantes all around the edge of the lagoon to eat, buy something to drink or use the bathroom.
