Itaipu in detail: a special and unforgettable tour through the interior of the Plant

A special and full of energy visit: in addition to seeing the famous sights of the Panoramic Tour, you will still get a closer look of the details of the Plant, the architecture of the majestic concrete cathedrals that make up the 196 meters high dam (equivalent to a 65-story building).

This massive dam, once considered the worlds largest hydro electric dam (Three Gorges Dam in China is now the largest) is a must visit. Very impressive structure and a real treat if the sluice gates are opened (I did not see that). Tour used to be free but now is charged $$) But still you must see this incredible large... More

Capturing clean energy is always great news. To see the effort done at Itaipu to make this possible, is truly admirable.

It is a huge and a beautiful construction that needs to be visited. Before you make a visit to its outside a video is presented telling the story and some numbers for you to compare how big it is.

Where once were the Guaíra Falls, the world's largest in volume, now there is a dam and an artificial lake. I understood that the Brazilian government even dynamited the bedrock of the falls making it impossible to ever restore the original flow of the Parana river. The hydroelectric power plant provides 70% of Paraguay's electricity, though most energy is destined... More

Really nice to visit. Interesting to see this great construction. The guided tour is really nice, you come quite close and stop at some nice places for photo.

It is an astonishing construction, but not so attractive when the spillways are closed (most part of the time). Yet, it is worth visiting it. What one must bring along when visiting it is a windbreaker, especially if s/he decides to go on the upper floor of the double-decker bus, for the wind may be quite cold at times.

It is a dam. A large river and that´s it. The guide tried to bring facts and interesting information but did not make it much more that this. Maybe if I did the internal visit would be nicer. But if you have a free evening to spend why not. If you miss it, do not feel sorry.

An interesting place to visit for a morning or afternoon - the world's 2nd largest hydroelectric dam! Whilst the Brazilian side has a comprehensive website offering different tours, you can turn up at the Paraguayan side and go on one of their hourly tours for free! The informational video is in Spanish with English subtitles and the staff were very... More
