Either viewed from the green or further away out in the harbour, this church is iconic and would have been the first thing folks saw when arriving throughout the ages. There is a small museum of religious icons inside and its brightly lit at night. beautiful both by day and night

Founded in 1722 by freed African slaves, it is the oldest church in the city. It was built by, and for, all those considered not white enough to attend the church of the ruling elite. These would included the illegitimate offspring of the aristocracy, their children, indigenous people, and freed slaves. It was not open on the day (Monday) that we visited during a walking tour with our private guide, but that was no loss since he told us that is was deconsecrated in the 20th century, has a plain interior, and that it now serves as a sparse museum.
