We perform checks on reviews.
Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a very bad experience using the vlt. We choose our hotel as it was in front of a vlt stop and wanted to visit the museum of tomorrow as part of our short 2 day program. Bad idea. It starts with the difficulty to buy a ticket. None of our debit or credit cards was accepted. The alternative is cash. But each card you buy (you need first a card for each person) is a separate transaction and the vending machine does not give change. The process of buying tickets was therefore stressful and took 30 + min of our valuable holiday time to buy 4 tickets.
On the tram we had a much worse experience. We had put 20 rs on each card. But on our 4th trip we wrre controlled. One of us had not validated ? And not enough money anymore on the card to validate. No reasoning was possible. The law said our son of 15 had to leave the tram at night in the deserted centre of rio. The problem was obviously with the vlt system and we had not tried to fraud. But we left all the tram. Bought new tickets with cash to continue our journey. The controller controller waited for us at the next stop to get back on the tram and make sure we had paid. I happen to speak a little portuguese. Normal tourists would completely lost in duch a situation.

This masterpiece of waste of money just serves to take you from the domestic airport and bring you to the bus station.
Some times, for sure, is fast to do that by foot.
But yes, if u need to cross the downtown to get the Metro do not even think in do it by bus. It' will not work cos' vlt just transform the local transit in a nightmare, a perpetual traffic jam.

This is a scam of the city hall to gather money from tickets. I was a tourist in RJ and didn't knew which card would work on VLT. An employee of the Subway assured me that the card I had would work to make a connection, so I did what he instructed. For my surprise the card didn't work, and when I asked for help, the VLT staff called a city hall officer to give me a ticket of f&cking 60 dollars! So yeah, avoid that piece of sh&t train and don't give your money to those gospel monkeys from city hall.

Rio's tramway is a very safe and useful mode to acess Rio's downtown. With 3 lines, the system carries you to the principal points of the central area. The trains rarely are crowded and is very easy to find your way. Although your low operational speed (30kmh), the tramway is more quicker than buses, taxi or uber to take places on Rio downtown.

It's a good means of transportation. It's sad that you see people getting into VLT and don't validate the ticket. The ticket machine doesn't accept foreign debit or credit cards. It accepts cash but there is no change. Many beautiful buildings.

It was a nice way to travel through to #Kobra graffiti art on the Olympic Boulevard.
There is some very interesting architecture to be seen along the "walking street". Some very beautiful buildings including the Teatro.

The ticket machine does not accept foreign credit/debit cards; only cash from foreigners and there is no change. Fortunately we had a local guide to assist us.

The government of the city has expended a lot of money to provide this new tram service for visitors and the population. The self-service is not completely assimilated by everyone, because you need help of the officers to purchase you ticket. The line link the airport to some parts of the city and old historical part. The vagons is very new and silent. If you don't buy a ticket (rechargeable Rio Card) and validate the trip, you may be fined by the VLT inspector. Possibly, after the first time everything becomes easier. Therefore, for the beginners some difficulties may be solved by the officers. Links to the subway stations to airport and the Mauá square and Olympic boulevard. Since the parking lot is expensive and hard to find in Rio de Janeiro, going to the downtown by public transportation like VLT is a good idea.

Nice transportation option for those arriving at Santos Dumont airport and going to Rio downtown or Porto region. It's also an option for those coming from Rio bus terminal. Cheap ticket (around 2 usd), brand new train and safe stations. Don't forget to validate your ticket when getting onboard, otherwise you'll be fined in 50 usd.

Brand new Tram, still a short distance.

This is too much for Rio. . . Very good quality transport for people that does not respects it . . .

It is really a shame when you see local getting into VLT and do not validate the ticket. Also there were people removing the tinted film from the windows. . . .

It was funny that the Tram VLT is escorted by a motorcycle that runs in fornt of it, as the locals are not familiar with this kind of transport, so it just "open the way" for the VLT

Maybe in time the Cariocas will get educated to validate the ticket and not get the "advantage" of a FREE RIDE.
