If you are going to Rio you must see the Escadaria Selaron tiled stair in Lapa. There are also a lot of eateries and shops in the area to wonder around.

I was absolutely blown away by this and the story behind it. It's wonderful finding all of the tiles that relate to you. Absolutely beautiful.

We were staying in the area and sort of stumbled on this while on the way to Santa Therasa not a great idea to walk up it in the heat but it's pretty interesting. There are also some great murals on the houses when you walk to Santa Therasa from there.

This interest place to visit, several tiles from all over the world!!! The neighborhood is poor, but with a lot of bars you can feel the atmosphere of cariocas life!!! At the night you will be able to listen the real samba in several bars around this scale. I recommend this place.

This beautiful stairs ornamented with different tiles from all over the world became one of the most interesting places in Rio de Janeiro. Curiously, the developer of this project wasnt brazilian by birth, however, his heart could not be more carioca. Sadly, Jorge Selaron was murdered by one of his former pupil in 2013. Thanks to Selaron, Rio de Janeiro... More

Packed with tourists-- some gathering in informal queues for "THE" picture and cluttered with street vendors-- the ones with a personality you can't ignore, Escadaria Selaron delights you with one of the most vivid and imaginative collections of moasics. I loved the Brazilian pride theme that is captured throughout. There are tiles from all over the world, so it's fun... More

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
