Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I went on 03/13/2024, I went towards Guaratiba, beautiful views and less traffic on the way up and breathtaking, you have to get there very early because it is crowded and parking on the street is charged at 20 reais and in private spaces 40 I thought it was absurd and bring cash as the internet doesn't work and most establishments don't accept cards, including in parking lots. Very dirty beach and full of jellyfish, I had already been to the little beach, which I thought was much more incredible. Take everything, chair rental was worth 60 reais, I hope it won't always be like this!!

This was a beautiful beach tucked away behind mountains. It's a great location to escape the city but beware of rush hour traffic on your way home. It's horrendous!

This beach is stunning with clear water and interesting rock formations. There is a good restaurant at the very end of the beach. We drove all the way to the end and parked near the restaurant. The beach was less crowded here than towards the entrance, and we found it to be sublime. But the traffic is really awful on weekends along the coastal road if you are coming from the north (e.g., Copacabana or Ipanema). So leave plenty early to avoid the traffic. I would go back to this beach and recommend it to others.

It is great to drive from rio, past barra and then go to Grumari. It is a beautiful coastal route. There are a lot of places to stop. Take pictures. Go for a swim. Enjoy. You can spend a whole day doing this. Grumari beach is very beautiful. Watch out for the staff at the parking place. They sometimes charge you too much. Just ask the staff of the beach bar for the regular price.

This is one of my favorite places to visit just outside the usual Rio hotspots: Grumari and Praia do Abrico! Best to rent a car (be sure to ask for automatic transmission, 90% rentals are stick shifts!), as taking bus out here would make a long day. But: wow, what a fantastic beach... Black Bar & Restaurant there has good seafood and drinkgs, too!

Completely unspoiled natural beach with no buildings, makes you easily imagine how this part of the world was 500 years ago. Just don't go during a hot summer weekend day because it will be overloaded with people and cars.

For me, the best beach in the city... quiet and crystal clear water"! And another important detail: there are no street vendors.

Grumari, Prainha and Abrico beaches are amazing, its 15 min drive from Barra Da Tijuca. No public transportation, must go by car.

it's been a long time since grumari was a wild, out of hand place where you could enjoy nature. now it's more like 2 hours to get there, beach packed with people and two more hours to get back. try the remote beaches in pedra de guaratiba instead.

It is really not that hard to get there, maybe the drive is a bit long but still. If you're on a budget and don't want to take the taxi all the way there, take a bus 360 from Copacabana to Recreio and ask someone on the bus to tell you when you have to get off (at Posto 12, at the end of Recreio beach). People are really nice there so they will be happy to help you. Then take a taxi from there to Grumari. It costs around 22 reals. And when you want to go back from Grumari just ask someone to call you a taxi to get back to Recreio (we even got a ride from a owner of a restaurant because he said taxis are too expensive). Even though we don't speak Portuguese and they don't speak English, we managed to arrange everything somehow. :)
Only one advice left, don't go there during the weekend because it's way to crowded.
