Prainha Beach is a secluded half-moon-shaped beach, bordered on each side by rocks and high cliffs. It is one of the best surfing spots in Rio, and may be reached by car or by the orange "surf bus" that passes through Copacabana and Ipanema.

Another good beach to spend time

It is lovely with some good waves at least while we were there this month. Not sure if it is good for swim. But certainly can have a nice walk and drinks.

The scenario is incredible: the forest behind you, the sea in front of you. Excellent place for surfing. You can always make wonderful pictures there.

You will even forget you are still in Rio! Why? Because it is pure nature, no high buildings, just some places to eat and the beautiful Natural Park of Prainha. You need a car ( no buses up to there), it will take you over an hour from Copacabana, and on week ends it can take you longer. But already... More

This is one of my favourite beaches in Rio. The only way to reach it is by car. Although it is a little out of the tourist areas,it is worth going. It is a whole day experience.

This is an amazing beach! There were not a lot of people while we were visiting and it made our time really special/ There is a cafe just nearby in case you would like to be in a shadow.

still a bit unspoiled for a beach near Rio. 40min drive fro the south zone of the city and definitelly woth the drive. during the summer you need to go really early in the morning (~7am) to be able to park there

Located about 1 hour from downtown Rio , not considering traffic , this beach is a pearl of the coast of Rio, After Barra da Tijuca and Recreio beaches , you get to Grumari , which is also an amazing beach, though bigger. From Grumari in 5 mins you are on Prainha. It's an environmental reserve beach , with a... More

A really good location off the beaten track. Lots of rocks to climb for the kids. Not full of beach traders selling to you like Copacabana.

If you want to get away from the big city beaches, Prainha is a perfect alternative! Just be aware, it might get crowded there as well, so arrive early!
