We arrived in Rio on possibly the worst day of the year - New Years day! We booked into our hotel on the main stretch of the beach and were totally taken knocked out by the stench of the streets. We originally thought that the...More
What to say about Copacabana Beach? First of all, that beach is the most cosmopolitan beach that I visited in my life, you will find all of type of things, of peoples, of culture, you can dancing the samba music ( rio de Brazilian's music),...More
A beautiful beach which is huge. We went down for a couple of hours in the afternoon but were constantly hassled by people selling things which was slightly annoying.
Perfect for a nice stroll but be careful of valuables.
It was the most magic New Year's Eve ever! Fireworks all over, music, frinks and a lot of people but still free to move and dance without losing your breath.
But daytime.. The beach is a normal city beach and the sea is not that...More
The sculptor did a marvelous job in creating the statue of Jesus The Redeemer! The visit includes a train ride, elevator, and escalators to get to the top. It is certainly worth the trip, although be prepared for long lines for the train. There are...More
This is one of the most famous and iconic beaches in the world so it left me bit underwhelmed. The water is not very clean, it was super crowded (you literally can't put a foot without stepping over someone), there are no water sports for...More
Apart from having an actual ocean here, there is nothing to rate. Water colour seems bronish, especially on the shore, beach is busy, but not exciting, just lots of people (Ipenama is also busy but has more life, interesting characters on the beach). Like most...More
Being from South Africa I have know what beautiful beaches look like this was a different experience.
It’s great that most of the vendors on the beach have speed points so you don’t really need cash.

The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful
draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
Our stay in Rio, staying at a hotel directly on Copacabana Beach was part of an 'Essential Brazil' tour from Travel2 which was tweaked and altered to suit our requirements. They have a number of ready made options which... More

As Copacabana Beach is several miles in length it has sections to accommodate most everyone and every thing. We stay in the central section (in front of the Copacabana Palace and Othon Palace hotels) which seems to cater to families. I do not recall dogs on the beach; my many experiences in Brasil and other countries in South America lead me to a cultural impression that dogs there are more for home security than pets to be drug about in public venues.
