When I return to Rio I will definitely stay in Leblon - it has a beautiful beach and safe streets with great restaurants and bars

Leblon's beach shares the same shore with Ipanema but is alot less crowded. It's mainly a local's beach. The sand coast is quite small, and there is a good volume of waves. There are usually people playing: beach-voley, futvoley, and beachtennis besides doing exercise. Leblon is one of the trendiest neighborhood in town, after the beach you can go for... More

This is a beautiful beach in the nicest area of Rio. Lots of restaurants nearby, along with subway stations 2 blocks away. Good food and drink right on beach. If you are into working out, there are nice mini-gyms every 1/4 mile or so along the beach

Leblon is a high-end neighborhood and the beach matches it's attitude. Mostly locals with few vendors and shops. It is very quiet and serene. Bring your own drinks and food.

Probably the worst place to swim in Rio. The effluent from the favela's empties straight on to this beach, yet this is were the most expensive apartments are.

A quiet neighborhood, with one of the greatest beaches of the city. The variety of nice restaurants is big. Local artists usually live here

Good beach but needs toilets. Pleasant walk along to other beaches. Clean and love the outdoor gyms.

There were so many people out and about, walking, picnicking, playing volleyball. It was the "spot to be" with lots of restaurant choices.

If the sound of people trying to sell you drinks and tat is ruining your relaxing beach experience; head to Leblon. While there are still traders marketing their goods, they number significantly fewer than those found on Copacabana. Sand and surf is much the same. Probably slightly more expensive, but not really noticeable. Go for the quietness (relatively speaking).

Staying in Leblon

Neighbourhood Profile
Leblon
In addition to being one of the most upscale neighbourhoods in the city, Leblon is charming, elegant and simple. This posh area has some of the most famous and expensive restaurants in Brazil, along with some of the city’s best nightlife (including some places open all night). One of the best places to visit is the beach, located under the impressive “Morro Dois Irmãos” (Two Brothers Hill). It’s a pleasant place to relax and admire the local beauty.
